You can check there for it in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020), but Microsoft’s official sources do not confirm whether new players can still claim it today. They also do not confirm that the Dune content works in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
How to look for the Dune Expansion in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
- Launch Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020).
- Open the in-sim Marketplace and look for the Dune Expansion.
- If it appears, follow the Marketplace prompts to download it. Microsoft announced it as a free Marketplace download on February 15, 2024, but its launch announcement does not establish whether the listing remains available to new claimants now. Microsoft Flight Simulator Team’s February 15, 2024 Development Update
At launch, “free” meant no separate charge for the expansion itself. Microsoft’s announcement does not say whether the package is currently claimable, so the Marketplace is the place to check rather than a guaranteed route.
What the expansion includes
The Dune Expansion adds the Royal Atreides Ornithopter, a fictional aircraft with four oscillating wings. The aircraft can be flown in free flight anywhere in the world, and the package also includes activities set on Arrakis. Microsoft Flight Simulator Team’s Development Update and Xbox Wire’s February 13, 2024 announcement list three tutorials—take-off, landing, and freefall—and six activities: five time trials and a rescue mission.
If you already own it and are checking Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is a standalone sequel, not simply an update to the 2020 simulator. Microsoft provides general steps for managing eligible legacy Marketplace content, but the support guidance does not verify that the Dune Expansion is available or functional in 2024.

- In Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, open Marketplace → My Library.
- Search for the Dune package and check its status.
- If it is listed as eligible, use the controls in My Library to enable or download the legacy content, following Microsoft’s legacy-content instructions.
Microsoft says non-Microsoft ported content is disabled by default in the described 2024 workflow. A package marked “Not available” is not verified for 2024; the general library instructions should not be taken as confirmation that Dune transfers or works. Microsoft’s Flight Simulator 2024 FAQ describes 2024 as a standalone sequel and notes that the 2020 roadmap continued after its launch, including the free Dune DLC. That roadmap reference is not a current availability or compatibility confirmation.
