A PlayStation social post accidentally revealed the name Heart of Democracy and a May 20, 2025 release date for a major Helldivers 2 update. The May 14 leak report offered few details; PlayStation confirmed the update was live on May 20 and then described its Super Earth invasion missions and features.
What did PlayStation’s leak reveal?
On May 14, 2025, Insider Gaming reported that a Czech PlayStation social account had briefly posted an image naming the update Heart of Democracy and giving May 20 as its release date. The post was removed. Insider Gaming said details were scarce at the time, so the gameplay features below were not established by the leak itself. Insider Gaming’s report

Was the leak confirmed?
Yes. On May 20, 2025, PlayStation Blog published an official announcement saying the update was live. Katherine Baskin, Social Media and Community Manager at Arrowhead Game Studios, wrote: “Our major update, Heart of Democracy, is now live.” The announcement confirmed the date and supplied the fuller feature description that had been missing from the leak. #1 Best Overall
- BECOME A LEGEND - You will be assembled into squads of up to four Helldivers and assigned strategic missions. Watch each other’s back – friendly fire is an unfortunate certainty of war, but victory without teamwork is impossible.
- LOADOUTS - Rain down freedom from above, sneak through enemy territory, or grit your teeth and charge head-first into the jaws of combat. How you deliver liberty is your choice; you’ll have access to a wide array of explosive firepower, life-saving armour and battle-changing stratagems… the jewel in every Helldiver’s arsenal.
- REQUISITION - Super Earth recognises your hard work with valuable Requisition. Use it to access different rewards that benefit you, your squad, your destroyer ship and our overall war effort.
- THREATS - Everything on every planet wants you dead. That’s what we’re dealing with. Each enemy has distinct and unpredictable characteristics, tactics, and behaviour – but they all fight ferociously and without fear or morality.
- City operations: Helldivers work together to liberate cities, with their progress affecting planetary campaigns.
- Contested landing areas: Players push back the Illuminate invasion by gaining ground and contesting landing zones, where control can shift quickly.
- Planetary Defense Cannons: Players can activate the cannons to attack the Illuminate fleet.
- SEAF support squads: Small allied squads fight independently or can temporarily follow Helldivers.
- Civilian protection: Players must avoid killing civilians with friendly fire while fighting in the cities.
PlayStation’s announcement also named the Crescent Overseer and Fleshmob as new Illuminate troops. It noted that a primary-weapon customization system and expanded surplus options had been released the previous week; those were adjacent releases, not features first introduced with Heart of Democracy. The official Helldivers 2 announcement on Steam also describes the update’s content. Steam announcement feed
What do players need to access the update?
PlayStation’s announcement states that an internet connection and the Helldivers 2 game are required for the update. It does not provide an update-size figure in the cited post. PlayStation Blog

Is Heart of Democracy still the latest update?
No. Heart of Democracy launched in May 2025, and the official Helldivers 2 Steam announcement feed includes later game updates. It should be understood as a major update from that date, not described as the game’s current latest update. Official Helldivers 2 Steam announcements
