How to Move a Building in Minecraft Without Rebuilding It

Bedrock players can move a build with /clone or save and reload it with /structure. Learn how the methods differ and what to check before relocating a build.

You can relocate a Minecraft building by copying its block region to a new location. In Bedrock Edition, the built-in /clone command supports a move mode that clears the original, while /structure lets you save a named build and load it elsewhere. The precise steps depend on your edition and version; the command references below document Bedrock, not a universal Java-and-Bedrock syntax.

Before you move the building

Choose whether to clear the original immediately or keep it until you have checked the new placement. A direct move is quicker, but it is destructive if the destination or coordinates are wrong. For a safer workflow, make a backup or test in a copy of the world, and use the save-and-load method below so the original remains while you verify the result.

  • Identify the two opposite corners of the building’s full block region, including foundations, roofs, and any attached parts you want to keep.
  • Check that the destination area is clear if you do not want existing blocks replaced.
  • Decide whether entities such as mobs or other build contents need to move too; the structure command has entity-inclusion options, but the right setting depends on your build.
  • Confirm your edition and version. The official command syntax in the cited references is for Bedrock Edition.

Move it directly with Bedrock /clone

For a one-time relocation in Bedrock, /clone copies a region to a destination, and its move mode removes the source region after copying. Microsoft documents the syntax as /clone <begin> <end> <destination> [maskMode] [cloneMode] and gives this move example: /clone 0 64 0 10 70 10 20 64 0 replace move. See the official Bedrock /clone reference.

Understand the coordinates and options

  • <begin> and <end> are opposite corners of the source region. The example selects the region bounded by 0 64 0 and 10 70 10.
  • <destination> marks the destination corner corresponding to the beginning corner; in the example it is 20 64 0.
  • replace means the copied region replaces blocks in the destination area. Use care: this can overwrite what is already there.
  • move clears the original region after moving it. The other documented modes include force and normal.
  • The masked mask mode copies non-air blocks only. That can preserve existing blocks in gaps, but it is not the same as replacing the whole destination region.

Run the command carefully

  1. Enable cheats or otherwise ensure you have permission to use commands in the world.
  2. Choose the exact source corners and destination corner. Check the area’s height as well as its horizontal footprint.
  3. For your first attempt, consider using a non-destructive copy in a backup or test world, then verify alignment before using move in the original world.
  4. Enter the command with the coordinates and modes that fit your intended result. Inspect the destination before making further edits.

Save and load a named structure in Bedrock

Use /structure when you want to save the building under a name before placing it elsewhere, or when you may need to rotate or mirror it. The workflow is to save the region using its two corner positions, then load that named structure at a destination. The load command supports options including rotation, mirroring, entity and block inclusion, and waterlogging. Cheats are required. See Microsoft’s Bedrock /structure reference for the current command syntax and options.

Structure blocks provide an in-game way to save and load structures as well. Microsoft’s Creator Tools guide describes structure blocks and the Bedrock Editor as tools for saving, loading, moving, or manipulating builds; its structure-block workflow requires cheats. If you use a load option that rotates or mirrors the build, check the placement before removing the original.

Optional editing tools for players already using them

WorldEdit

WorldEdit is third-party editing software installed as a mod or plugin, so availability and compatibility depend on your setup. Its 7.2 documentation describes //move <distance> [direction] [fill pattern]. Without a fill pattern, the original area is filled with air. The documentation also lists options for moving entities, copying biomes, and filtering blocks. Consult the version-specific WorldEdit region operations documentation before using it.

WorldEdit for Bedrock and Litematica

WorldEdit for Bedrock documents exporting a selected region as a named structure and importing it to a clipboard for placement. Its documentation notes that these structures have more limited manipulation than clipboards, and using one in another world requires processing the original world with the WorldEdit app. See WorldEdit for Bedrock’s structures guide.

Litematica is an optional Java-side schematic tool. Its project wiki describes schematic paste options, including “With non-air,” but does not establish one universal relocation recipe for every Java version or setup. Treat it as a workflow to check against your installed version rather than as equivalent to Bedrock’s documented /clone command. See Litematica’s basic operations guide.

Which method should you choose?

Method Best suited to What to know
Bedrock /clone with move A direct, one-time relocation Official Bedrock syntax; clears the original. Destination replacement behavior depends on the mask mode.
Bedrock /structure or structure blocks Saving a named build or placing it with rotation or mirroring Cheats are required for the documented command/workflow; load options include entity and block settings.
WorldEdit Players already using the mod or plugin Third-party setup; //move leaves air behind unless a fill pattern is given.
WorldEdit for Bedrock or Litematica Players already using those workflows Tool-specific export, import, or schematic steps vary; check the project documentation for the installed version.

Edition and version matter

The official command pages linked here document Bedrock Edition. Do not assume their syntax or availability is identical in Java Edition, across all versions, or on every multiplayer server. If the command is unavailable or rejected, check the game edition and version and, on a server, whether you have permission to use commands or editing tools.
