If Hogwarts Legacy keeps crashing on your PS5, start by deleting and reinstalling the game, as Portkey Games recommends. If the crash continues, test a different graphics mode, then consider PS5 Safe Mode options or report the reproducible problem to Portkey Games. None of these steps is guaranteed to fix every crash, and a crash alone does not prove the console is faulty.
1. Delete and reinstall Hogwarts Legacy
Portkey Games’ direct PS5 guidance is to remove the game and install it again. Highlight Hogwarts Legacy in the Games Hub, press the Options button, and choose Delete. Then reinstall it from the disc or download it again from your Game Library. Reinstalling is the recommended first step, not a guaranteed cure.

2. Test another graphics mode
Changing modes is a useful diagnostic test if crashes continue, but Portkey Games does not say that a particular mode causes or fixes crashes. In the game, open Settings > Display Options and try a different available mode. The common Fidelity and Performance targets are publisher-described targets, not independently measured results or crash-rate data.

3. Consider PS5 Safe Mode options carefully
If the game still crashes, PlayStation provides Safe Mode tools that may help with certain system-feature issues or performance drops. These are system troubleshooting options, not Hogwarts Legacy-specific fixes, and Sony does not promise they will resolve a crash.
- Turn off the PS5 by holding its power button for three seconds.
- Press and hold the power button again. Release it after the second beep, which sounds about seven seconds after the first.
- Connect the controller using a USB cable and press the PS button.
- Choose Clear Cache and Rebuild Database, then select the option appropriate to the issue.
Clear System Software Cache
PlayStation describes this option as intended for system feature problems or performance drops. It clears system software cache; it is not a guaranteed game-crash fix.

Rebuild Database
This scans the drive and creates a new database of system content. It is different from resetting the console, but PlayStation does not identify it as a guaranteed remedy for Hogwarts Legacy crashes.
Avoid reset options as early troubleshooting
Safe Mode also includes reset choices. Reset PS5 and Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software) delete user data. PlayStation warns that some Safe Mode options can cause data loss and recommends backing up to USB or Cloud Storage before selecting them. Do not use a reset as a casual first response to a game crash.

4. Report a persistent, reproducible crash
If the crash keeps happening, check Portkey Games’ bug-report site for a matching issue. If one exists, vote for it and add useful reproduction details; screenshots or video can help explain what happens. If there is no matching report, create one. You can also submit a customer-service help request through Portkey Games support.

- Include relevant screenshots or video with the report.
- Contact PlayStation support if you need help with the console or Safe Mode.

It does not identify a universal cause, establish that a specific PS5 is defective, or guarantee that any one troubleshooting step will work.
