That SteamDB figure makes it an unusually large indie launch, but it is not a current player count, a sales total, or a verified all-time ranking among indie games.
What was Silksong’s highest Steam player count?
SteamDB records Silksong’s all-time Steam peak as 587,150 concurrent players on 6 September 2025. “Concurrent” means players online at the same time; the number describes a moment of peak activity, not the total number of people who have played the game. SteamDB is a third-party tracker, and its chart times are in UTC. SteamDB’s chart shows the historical peak.
The game released on Steam on 4 September 2025. Team Cherry developed and published it. The peak therefore came during the launch period, but it should not be mistaken for today’s active-player count: live and 24-hour figures change continuously.
Does that make Silksong one of Steam’s most played indie games?
It is fair to describe the figure as an exceptionally large Steam launch for an indie game. However, the available data does not establish a formal all-time indie ranking or a precise position. SteamDB lists the peak but does not provide an indie-only leaderboard, and “indie” can mean different things unless the comparison defines its criteria.

A sound ranking would compare like with like: peak concurrent players against peak concurrent players, on the same platform and across a stated date range, using a clear definition of which games count as indie. Without that, a specific rank would overstate what the Steam peak proves.
How many people bought Silksong?
In a post dated 15 December 2025, Team Cherry said more than seven million people had purchased Silksong, with millions more playing through Xbox Game Pass. The developer’s statement was: “That’s over seven million of you who’ve purchased the game, alongside millions more playing on Xbox Game Pass!” (Team Cherry, 15 December 2025.)

This is a developer-reported milestone, not a Steam sales figure. The post does not break purchases down by platform or give an exact Game Pass player count. Purchasers, Game Pass players, and concurrent Steam players are separate measures and should not be added together as though they were one verified total.
What kind of game drew that launch?
Team Cherry describes Silksong as the studio’s full-scale sequel to Hollow Knight. It stars Hornet, who is captured and taken to an unfamiliar kingdom. The developer’s reveal page highlights coral forests, mossy grottos and gilded cities, alongside new combat moves, craftable weapons and tools, and quests. Can you play Silksong on Steam Deck?
SteamDB lists the game as Steam Deck Verified. Its compatibility details say the default controller configuration works, interface text is legible, and the default graphics configuration performs well. The compatibility test date shown is 18 September 2025; this is a listed verification result, not a claim of independent hands-on testing.

Team Cherry’s 15 December 2025 update said the Sea of Sorrow expansion was planned as a free expansion for all players in 2026. That was the studio’s plan as stated on that date; it does not by itself confirm the expansion’s current release status. The same update linked to Silksong merchandise and mentioned mini-figurines then available for preorder.
