You can buy keys from Pebb in Bone Bottom and Jubilana in Songclave, earn one from the Roachkeeper in Sinner’s Road, and find one on a corpse in eastern Sands of Karak. The Green Prince’s cell is the most consequential lock for later progression; the lower Deep Docks lock has an alternate route that does not require a key.
Where to find all four Simple Keys
Two keys are sold by merchants and two are found during exploration. The listed locations cover the standard four-key route.
1. Buy a key from Pebb in Bone Bottom
Open Pebb’s shop in Bone Bottom and buy a Simple Key for 500 Rosaries. Nintendo Life’s guide and the Hollow Knight Wiki both list that price.
2. Defeat the Roachkeeper in Sinner’s Road
Go to the northeast, upper portion of Sinner’s Road and defeat the Roachkeeper to get a key. The route is described as a tall room at the end of an eastward corridor; another guide places it above the Halfway House in Greymoor.

3. Buy a key from Jubilana in Songclave
Complete the Wandering Merchant Wish to open Jubilana’s shop in Songclave, then purchase the key. The price is inconsistent across references: the Hollow Knight Wiki, last edited August 18, 2026, lists 650 Rosaries, while Nintendo Life’s May 11, 2026 guide lists 750. Check Jubilana’s in-game price rather than relying on either figure as definitive.
4. Find the key in Sands of Karak
At the eastern tip of Sands of Karak, search the corpse beside the bench for the key. Nintendo Life’s route calls for Clawline and Double Jump: continue east through the area and break a wall to reach the bench. PC Gamer likewise places the key on a body at the far-right bench.

Where to use each Simple Key
Each lock below consumes one key. Their rewards differ, so consider your current abilities and progression goals before choosing which door to open.
Wormways entrance above Bone Bottom
This lower entrance is approached from above Bone Bottom and opens the west side of Wormways. The route is available after obtaining Swift Step; guides describe avoiding an acid-spitting enemy near the entrance and approaching from the Bone Bottom/Mosshome side.

Lower Deep Docks
The locked entrance is in central Deep Docks, south of Forge Daughter, and opens the lower area. It provides an alternate entrance without Clawline, but it is not the only way to explore those depths: the Hollow Knight Wiki describes reaching the lower Docks from Far Fields and exploring them with Clawline without spending a Simple Key. Nintendo Life recommends having Cling Grip, Clawline, and Double Jump before using the locked route.
Green Prince’s cell in Sinner’s Road
Use a key on the Green Prince’s cage in Sinner’s Road to free him. This is the clearest progression-focused use: the Hollow Knight Wiki says he can appear in later Citadel encounters and that, in Act 3, freeing him enables access to Lost Verdania.

High Halls near Ventrica Station
The lock is west of Ventrica Station. It opens the Rosary Bank area, where guide descriptions report Rosaries and a new Tool; PC Gamer specifically identifies the Rosary Cannon among the rewards.

There is no mandatory order, and the right choice depends on whether you want progression, an earlier route, or optional rewards. If you are planning for Act 3, the Green Prince’s cell has the strongest stated progression value. The Wormways door is an earlier area-access option once Swift Step is available. Consider postponing the Deep Docks lock if you can reach the lower area from Far Fields with Clawline, and treat High Halls as a later optional reward.
Can you buy more than the two merchant keys?
The standard four-key route has two purchased keys and two found keys. The Hollow Knight Wiki also lists a 600-Rosary Simple Key stock option from Grindle in Act 3, an additional buy option rather than part of the ordinary four-key location list. The 500-Rosary Pebb price is corroborated by Nintendo Life; Jubilana’s listed price differs between sources, so confirm it in the game.
