Homeworld: Vast Reaches is the Homeworld series’ first game made specifically for virtual reality. The 2024 “launches this year” wording is now outdated: FarBridge lists the game’s Meta Quest release as May 2, 2024, and its SteamVR release as November 7, 2025. It is a VR-only, single-player real-time strategy game.
What kind of Homeworld game is Vast Reaches?
Developed and published by FarBridge, Homeworld: Vast Reaches is an original VR strategy game, not a port or remaster. You take the role of Fleet Command and direct ships in real-time combat, ordering them to attack, defend, or capture strategic resources. The campaign is single-player, and the game also includes three challenge levels. VR lets you view fleet formations and battles from different angles.
That changes how the familiar fleet-command premise is presented: rather than playing a conventional flat-screen edition in a headset, you are meant to look around the battle space and direct your forces from within it. FarBridge describes the game and its features on its official game page.
Where does its story fit in the series?
The story takes place between Homeworld and Homeworld 2, before Homeworld 3. You play as Tyrra Soban, a new Fleet Command, with Karan S’jet as your guide. The opposing Radaa are described by FarBridge as interstellar traders seeking a hyperspace core.

FarBridge’s FAQ notes that Vast Reaches and Homeworld 3 were made by different studios. The chronological setting connects the games’ broader timeline, but it does not make Vast Reaches a VR edition of Homeworld 3.
Where can you play it?
The game is available as a standalone Meta Quest title and as a PC VR game through SteamVR. These are different setups: buying or playing the Quest version does not mean the Steam copy runs standalone on a headset.

FarBridge says the game was designed for VR first and that it has no current plans for a non-VR version. Steam labels it “VR Only.” Check the FarBridge platform details and Steam listing for current availability.
