Add your child to your Microsoft family group, then set the Xbox console as the subscription holder’s Home Xbox if they will play there. These are separate steps: family membership helps you manage your child’s account, while Home Xbox sharing gives other profiles access to eligible Game Pass content on that console.
Add your child to your Microsoft family group
- As the parent or family organizer, go to account.microsoft.com/family and sign in.
- Select Add a family member, then choose Member for your child.
- Enter your child’s email address or phone number and send the invitation.
- Have your child sign in to their own Microsoft account and accept the invitation. Microsoft may require adult consent if the child is below the applicable statutory age. If they do not have an account, Microsoft also documents a way to create one through Xbox console settings. See Microsoft Support for current account and family-group steps.
You can also add a child from the Xbox: press the Xbox button, then open Profile & system > Settings > Account > Family settings > Manage family members > Add to family. The next step depends on whether the child already has an Xbox account on that console.
Share eligible Game Pass content on an Xbox console
After adding the child to the family group, sign in to the Xbox with the account that owns the subscription. Open Settings > Personalization > My home Xbox and designate that console as the account’s Home Xbox.
On that Home Xbox, other profiles can use eligible subscription-enabled content without the subscription owner remaining signed in. Your child should play using their own Xbox profile, rather than using the adult’s profile. Microsoft describes Home Xbox sharing as applying to games, durable add-ons, and content enabled as part of a subscription such as Xbox Game Pass in its Product sharing model for games.

What changes if your child plays on a Windows PC?
Home Xbox sharing is a console method; do not assume that adding a child to your family group grants them PC Game Pass access. Microsoft’s Windows licensing behavior is tied to the account signed into Microsoft Store, which may be different from the account used for Xbox services. Some games also have restrictive licensing. Check the current instructions for the specific game or app and the accounts it requires.

Family membership does not remove age restrictions. A child may need parental consent to play a game above the age limit set for their account. Xbox states that age limits continue to apply to Game Pass titles in its Gaming Safety Toolkit.
