If you cannot open the email address on your Epic Games account, try to recover that mailbox through your email provider first. If you cannot, start Epic’s account recovery flow from a private browser window where you are not signed in, then choose the lost-access option when it appears. Epic may request more information to verify the account; recovery is not guaranteed and Epic does not publish a universal processing time.
Choose the right route
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| You can restore access to the old mailbox | Recover it through your email provider, then use Epic’s standard email-change steps. Epic’s email-change instructions explain the verification process. |
| You cannot restore access to the old mailbox | Use Epic account recovery in a private browser window while signed out, and follow the lost-email prompts. Start with Epic’s account recovery instructions. |
If you can recover the old mailbox
Once you can open the current address, sign in to your Epic account and follow the email-change process in account settings. Epic sends a security code to the current address, and you must verify the new address as well. The replacement address cannot already be in use on another Epic account. Epic’s current support instructions say an email address can be changed once every 90 days.

If you cannot access the old mailbox
- Keep any existing Epic session open. If you are signed in on a browser or device, do not sign out just to begin recovery. Open a separate incognito or private window instead.
- Make sure the private window is signed out. Epic directs users who have lost access to their account email to start recovery from a browser session that is not signed in to an Epic account.
- Open Epic’s account recovery flow. Follow the current sign-in recovery prompts. Depending on what Epic can verify, you may see authentication or password-recovery options.
- Select the lost-email option if offered. Choose “Lost access to this email address?” when the flow presents it, then follow the on-screen instructions. Epic may ask for additional information to try to identify and recover the account.
Epic does not publish a universal checklist of proof that every account owner must provide, an approval guarantee, or a fixed recovery timeline. The live flow will indicate what is needed for your case.
If you can sign in but cannot open the old email
Being signed in does not remove the old-address verification step from Epic’s ordinary email-change process. Epic directs people who cannot access the current account email to account recovery rather than bypassing that verification in settings. Use a separate private window for recovery so you do not lose your active session.

If you forgot which email is on the account
Epic has a self-service email lookup that can search using an Epic display name, Account ID, or linked-account display name. Its response is sent to the email address on the Epic account, so the lookup may identify the address but will not help you open an inaccessible mailbox. Use a signed-out private window if you are already signed in elsewhere. See Epic’s account-email lookup instructions.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

Protect your account during recovery
- Use Epic’s official support and recovery flow, and contact your email provider for mailbox access issues.
- Do not give your password or security codes to anyone who claims they can change the email for you.
- Do not treat third-party account-recovery services as a substitute for Epic’s process; Epic’s support instructions do not endorse them.
