How to Get Back to the Parking Garage in Resident Evil 2 Remake

Your route back to the RPD Parking Garage depends on your character and scenario: Leon returns through the Jail and basement, while Claire uses the private elevator from Chief Irons’ Office.

Your route back to the Parking Garage in Resident Evil 2 depends on whether you are Leon or Claire and which scenario you are playing. In the first run, Leon returns through the Jail and basement after the switchboard sequence; Claire returns by taking the private elevator from Chief Irons’ Office. The Parking Garage Key Card opens the ramp gate, but it is not required for every route into the garage.

First, check your character and scenario

The Parking Garage is in the RPD’s B1 basement. It connects to several basement passages, so the ramp gate is not the only way in or out. Leon and Claire also have different first-run routes, and 2nd-run events can differ. If the directions below do not match your current objective, use your character, run type, and latest objective to identify the right route rather than treating one character’s path as universal. The B1 map lists the garage’s connections.

Leon: return through the Jail in the first run

  1. From the Parking Garage, follow the route into the Jail and continue through the basement and RPD progression. The Leon A walkthrough describes leaving the garage by the Jail route and continuing from there. See the Leon A walkthrough.
  2. Later, solve the Jail switchboard puzzle and enter Ben’s cell.
  3. Take the Parking Garage Key Card from Ben’s cell, then retrace the basement route to the Parking Garage.

The card is useful when you want to open the ramp gate and leave by that exit. It is not a universal key for returning to the garage through its other B1 connections.

Claire: use the private elevator in the first run

  1. Follow Claire’s key progression through the morgue and elevator access, using the Diamond Key where required.
  2. Reach Chief Irons’ Office and take the private elevator back down to the Parking Garage. The Claire A walkthrough maps the route from the parking lot toward Chief Irons’ Office.

If you are on a 2nd run or another objective

Do not assume the first-run directions apply unchanged. Leon and Claire’s event order and onward routes vary, including in 2nd runs. Check your current character and most recent objective first; the garage map helps distinguish the B1 passages from the ramp, but route references do not establish one hallway-by-hallway return path for every possible save. The full walkthrough is organized by scenario.
