If your Switch shows error 2124-4007 or 2124-4508 with the message “The use of online services on this console is currently restricted by Nintendo,” Nintendo says the console is permanently banned from connecting online. Contact Nintendo Support for an explanation of your specific case, but Nintendo’s published error-code information does not describe a universal appeal process or promise that a ban can be reversed.
Check which error code you have
The code determines whether the restriction is on the console or limited to a particular game or service. Nintendo’s US support page and UK support page describe the console-wide codes; Nintendo documents 2124-5114 separately.
| Error code | Restriction Nintendo describes |
|---|---|
| 2124-4007 or 2124-4508 | The console is permanently banned from connecting online. Nintendo says this is due to a breach of its user agreements; examples include fraudulent or unauthorized transactions and Community Guidelines violations. The examples are not exhaustive. Nintendo of America Support |
| 2124-5114 | A restriction on online features for a specific game or service affecting an account or console. This is not the same as the console-wide ban above. Nintendo of America Support |
What to do if your console has error 2124-4007 or 2124-4508
- Write down the exact code and message. Include whether the restriction appears while connecting to a particular game or service, or when trying to use online services more generally.
- Contact Nintendo Support for the region associated with your account or console. Give an accurate account of what happened and ask what restriction applies and whether a review is available. Use the relevant regional support channel; Nintendo’s US and UK pages describe the same central meaning for these console-wide codes.
- Keep the response and case details. If you contact support again, provide the case information and the exact code so the conversation stays focused on the restriction Nintendo identified.
Nintendo’s public error-code pages identify the restriction and give examples of agreement breaches, but they do not explain how an individual decision is reviewed, what evidence was used, or whether a particular ban can be reversed. Treat contacting Support as a request for case-specific information, not a guaranteed unban route.
What will not resolve the restriction
Nintendo describes these codes as restrictions imposed on a console’s access to online services. Its published guidance does not identify a physical product, networking equipment, or a third-party “unban” service as a remedy. Avoid attempts to evade enforcement or paying anyone who claims they can remove the restriction; use Nintendo Support for the case-specific answer.
