To add a second account that stays available on your PS5, select your profile picture on the home screen, then choose Switch User > Add User > Get Started. Sign in with an existing PlayStation account or choose Create an Account to make a new one. This creates a continuing user profile, unlike guest play. Sharing games or PlayStation Plus benefits requires a separate setting.
How to add a second account to your PS5
- From the PS5 home screen, select your profile picture.
- Choose Switch User > Add User > Get Started.
- At the sign-in screen, sign in with the second person’s existing PlayStation account, or select Create an Account to make a new one.
- If creating an account, enter the requested details and verify the email address if prompted.
Sony says an existing PS4 account can also be used on PS5. Account-specific items such as trophies, friends, and a PlayStation Plus membership remain associated with that account. See PlayStation’s account setup instructions.
Setting up an account for a child or family member
Create a child account
For a child, choose Switch User > Add User > Get Started > Create an Account and follow the prompts to create the account and configure parental controls. Sony’s family account guide explains the setup flow.
Add an adult to your PlayStation family
A continuing user profile and family membership are separate. The family manager can add an adult from Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management > Add Family Member, then follow the QR-code flow using the adult’s sign-in ID.

Adding an account does not automatically share games
If the second user should access eligible games and media bought and downloaded by another account on this PS5, the purchasing account must enable Console Sharing and Offline Play. On the purchasing account, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play, then select Enable. Sony says this is automatically enabled on the first PS5 used to sign in with that account. See Sony’s console-sharing instructions.
When enabled, other users on that PS5 can play eligible games and media the account holder purchased and downloaded, including when the console is offline. Some PlayStation Plus benefits are also shareable, but not all: Sony excludes online storage, redeeming Plus games on another account, and buying discounted products from the Store. Check Sony’s list of shareable and non-shareable Plus benefits rather than assuming every purchase or entitlement transfers.

Moving sharing from another PS5
An account can have Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled on one PS5 at a time. If it is enabled on an old console, disable it there before enabling it on the new one. If you cannot access that console, Sony allows remote deactivation of all devices through Account Management, but only once every six months. Follow Sony’s console deactivation instructions.
