How to ask a Sim to move in

In Live Mode, build a friendly relationship with the Sim. The Sims Wiki move-in guide says the relationship must be at friend level or higher for the interaction to appear.

Select the Sim you want to invite and check the Friendly interactions for Ask to Move In. The Sims Wiki documents that label; similar household outcomes may be described as asking a Sim to join the household, and interface wording can vary.

If the Sim accepts, follow the in-game household confirmation flow. The available sources do not establish a universal acceptance threshold.

Move-in request, roommate, or Gallery household?
Choose based on the result you want. An invited household member is part of the active household; a roommate is a separate arrangement and is not actively controlled by the player, according to an EA Forums response. If you want the Sim as a playable household member, do not substitute a roommate offer.
For a household saved in the Gallery or My Library, EA documents a separate option: in Live Mode, find the household and select Place Household to merge it with yours. See EA Gallery help. This is a Gallery workflow, not a general method for moving any existing Sim into your household.

Why can’t I see Ask to Move In?
First, check that you selected the intended Sim and inspect their Friendly interactions. The community guide’s friend-or-higher prerequisite is the documented relationship guidance. EA’s cited pages do not explain every reason the option may be absent, so factors such as household capacity, age, traits, or household status should not be treated as confirmed universal rules.
Acceptance is not guaranteed. In its July 1, 2025 update notes, EA describes a specific exception: if invited to move in, Agatha Crumplebottom reminds the player that she is content where she is. That character-specific example is not evidence that all Sims respond the same way. Read EA’s update notes.
