Shadow of the Erdtree’s Land of Shadow is at least comparable in scale to Limgrave, according to FromSoftware director Hidetaka Miyazaki before launch. A post-launch estimate from Dot Esports describes it as roughly the size of two base-game regions, or about one-third of the Lands Between. Those are separate comparisons—not official, directly measured map areas.
What is the DLC map called?
The expansion takes place in the Land of Shadow, a separate setting from the Lands Between. Bandai Namco describes it as the setting for a story not told in the base game, but its official product information does not give an area measurement: Bandai Namco’s Shadow of the Erdtree page.

Is the Land of Shadow bigger than Limgrave?
Before release, FromSoftware director Hidetaka Miyazaki told IGN that the expansion’s scale was “probably comparable, if not larger, than the area of Limgrave from the base game.” He qualified the comparison, saying it was difficult to answer with a high degree of accuracy without revealing too much. GameSpot reported the interview and comparison: GameSpot’s report on the Limgrave comparison.
That makes Limgrave the clearest direct comparison from the game’s director, but it is not a precise measurement. Miyazaki did not give a playable-area figure or a definitive ratio.

How does it compare with the Lands Between?
After the expansion launched, Dot Esports characterized the Land of Shadow as roughly the size of two base-game regions and estimated it at about one-third the size of the Lands Between. The same report estimated the Lands Between at around 30 square miles and the Land of Shadow at roughly 10 square miles. These are Dot Esports’ rough calculations, not official figures or results from a published common-scale mapping method: Dot Esports’ post-launch map comparison.
The “two regions” comparison and the one-third estimate should be read as that outlet’s broad post-launch characterization. They do not establish an exact number of Limgraves, nor do they turn the square-mile estimates into confirmed game facts.
Why the map may feel larger than its footprint
Area alone does not describe how much ground a player covers or how varied exploration feels. Dot Esports points to the Land of Shadow’s verticality, layered routes, and density as important parts of the experience. A map with multiple elevations and tightly arranged locations can feel more involved to traverse than a flat area of the same nominal size.
The available comparisons do not establish exact playable boundaries or a shared measurement method for Limgrave, the DLC, and the Lands Between. Treat the figures as useful scale estimates, not precise cartography.
