For an Alliance character with Legion travel access, take the portal from Stormwind’s portal room to Azsuna, then fly east to Legion Dalaran, the floating city above the Broken Isles. If you already have a usable Dalaran Hearthstone, use it to travel straight to that Dalaran.
Fastest route: use the Dalaran Hearthstone
If your character has a Dalaran Hearthstone and can use it, activate it to travel directly to Legion Dalaran in the Broken Isles. Blizzard’s July 11, 2023 Fractures in Time content update notes say that the Dalaran Hearthstone became a toy. That change does not mean every character can use it before visiting Legion Dalaran or completing the relevant introduction.

Use the Stormwind portal to Azsuna
- Go to the portal room in Stormwind.
- Find and take the portal to Azsuna.
- From Azsuna, fly east to Legion Dalaran, which floats above the Broken Isles.
This is the standard route when the Azsuna portal is available. Portal access can depend on your character’s progression and game state. Make sure you are heading to Legion Dalaran: the Valdrakken portal leads to the Dragon Isles, not the Broken Isles. Current travel guidance and player reports distinguish the two destinations (route guidance; Blizzard forum discussion).
If you have not started Legion
For a character using Chromie Time, go to Chromie near the Stormwind Embassy and select the Legion timeline. Blizzard describes Chromie Time as a way to choose a past expansion timeline and identifies Chromie’s location by the Embassy in its leveling guidance. Then follow the Legion introductory questline; it can establish the access needed to continue toward the Broken Isles.

The exact introductory prompt can vary. Player reports describe Recruiter Lee at the Stormwind harbor offering the Broken Shore introduction, sometimes with a skip that sends a character to Dalaran. Other reports say the quest appeared on the Hero’s Call board, or that Khadgar outside Stormwind Keep offered “The Call of War” to a new Demon Hunter after a relog. These reports are character-specific leads, not a guaranteed sequence for every character (player discussion; Demon Hunter discussion).
Which route should you take?

There is no single level requirement established for every character and portal. Access can depend on progression and quest state.

Why can’t I use the Azsuna portal?
- Check the Legion introduction. If you have not completed or started it, search the Hero’s Call board for a Broken Shore or Legion introductory quest, then check the Stormwind harbor for Recruiter Lee. Reported prompts vary by character, so neither location is a guaranteed fix.
- Confirm the destination. If you clicked the Valdrakken portal, you went to the Dragon Isles. Return to Stormwind’s portal room and look for Azsuna instead.
- For a new Demon Hunter, check for Khadgar. One player reported finding “The Call of War” outside Stormwind Keep after relogging when the expected harbor recruiter did not appear. Treat this as a possible lead for that situation, not a universal procedure.
- If your Dalaran Hearthstone is missing or unusable, complete the relevant Legion introduction and try the Azsuna route once it is available.
Quest phasing and character-specific progression can make the interface differ from the usual route. The reported workarounds are possibilities rather than guaranteed current fixes.
