Hover may suit people who want to register or transfer a domain and manage custom-domain email in one account. Its documented features include WHOIS privacy where the domain extension supports it and account security options such as two-step sign-in. Whether it is a good choice for your domain depends on the extension’s current renewal price, privacy availability, and your DNS and email setup—not on a blanket “cheap” or “expensive” label.
What Hover offers
Hover presents domain registration, custom-domain email, and domain management on its official website. Its registration guide describes the purchase flow and notes that premium or tiered-price domains can cost differently from standard registrations. Check the price for the exact name and extension before checkout; a domain’s availability or pricing tier can affect the total.
Hover says WHOIS privacy is included at no extra charge where the registry for an extension supports it. That qualification matters: privacy is not guaranteed for every top-level domain (TLD). Verify support for your specific extension in Hover’s domain registration guidance before relying on it.
How to judge the price
There is no single price that describes Hover across all extensions. Registration, renewal, and transfer costs can differ by TLD, and prices may change. Hover’s renewal information describes auto-renewal and paying for multiple years; check the live renewal price for the domain you intend to keep.

- Compare recurring cost, not just the first year. An introductory registration price does not tell you what keeping the domain will cost.
- Check privacy for the exact extension. Included privacy is useful only if the registry supports it for your TLD.
- Account for your setup. Consider whether you need custom-domain email and how your DNS is configured.
- Compare like with like. If evaluating another registrar, verify its current registration, renewal, and transfer terms for the same domain and extension.
Security features Hover documents
Hover lists encrypted passwords, sign-in notifications, two-step sign-in, WHOIS privacy, transfer locks, and an account activity feed among its security measures. These are vendor-described safeguards, not independent evidence that an account cannot be compromised or a guarantee of security outcomes. See Hover’s security standards and best practices for its descriptions.
What to check before transferring a domain
Hover says an incoming transfer includes a renewal that adds an additional year, while also noting that transfer requirements depend in part on the current registrar and the extension. Confirm eligibility and the current registrar’s requirements before starting; Hover’s transfer page outlines its process.

- Confirm eligibility and requirements. Check the domain’s status, extension-specific rules, and any steps required by the current registrar.
- Record your current setup. Identify the nameservers and DNS records serving your website, email, or other services.
- Prepare DNS if you are transferring away from Hover. If the domain uses Hover nameservers, Hover advises setting up records with the new provider before beginning the transfer. Do not assume those records will be recreated automatically.
- Watch for an approval request. Hover says an outgoing transfer may involve an email approval step. Follow the instructions for the specific domain.
These outgoing-transfer steps matter because websites and email depend on correct DNS configuration. Hover’s outgoing transfer instructions describe the process; use them alongside the new provider’s instructions and your actual DNS setup.
What reviews can—and cannot—tell you
Hover has a user-submitted review page on Trustpilot, which notes that anyone can write a review. Individual accounts can offer context, but they do not establish how representative reviewers are of all Hover customers or prove a general level of support quality. The available evidence here does not support a broad verdict on customer support or overall value, and it does not include hands-on testing.

Who should consider Hover?
Hover is worth considering if its current price for your exact TLD, privacy availability, and domain-management features match your needs. Before registering or moving a domain, confirm the renewal cost and make sure you understand the DNS and transfer steps relevant to your setup. Those checks are more useful than relying on a general reputation label.
