Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Seeing a Minecraft license error or a Buy Now message even though you believe you own the game? First, identify where you play: Windows PC, mobile, or console. The purchase may be tied to a different storefront account, and Microsoft Store and Xbox app troubleshooting applies only to Windows purchases handled through Microsoft.
For Windows PC, first find the account that owns Minecraft
A license error can mean the platform is not validating the account associated with the purchase. A missing purchase in one account’s history does not prove that no account owns the game. Microsoft-hosted Q&A community guidance recommends checking other accounts that may have been used to buy or redeem it; this is community advice, not a formal Minecraft support article.
- Check Microsoft order history. Sign in to the Microsoft account that may have purchased or redeemed Minecraft and review its order history. If the purchase is not there, check other Microsoft accounts or email addresses you might have used. If you cannot access the account that made the purchase, use Microsoft account recovery. Microsoft Q&A community guidance
- Compare the app sign-ins. Check that the Microsoft Store, Xbox app, and Minecraft Launcher are signed in with the account associated with that purchase. Microsoft Q&A community guidance
- Contact Microsoft Store Support if the records conflict. If order history shows a completed purchase or redeemed code but Microsoft services still do not recognize ownership, contact Microsoft Store Support with the order or redemption details. The community answer recommends escalation, but does not establish an official response deadline or guarantee a particular remedy.
Choose the next step based on what you find
| What you find | What to do |
|---|---|
| The purchase appears under another Microsoft account, and you can access it. | Use that account in the relevant apps. |
| The purchase appears under another account, but you cannot access it. | Recover the original Microsoft account. |
| The purchase or code redemption is documented under the expected account, but Microsoft services still disagree about ownership. | Contact Microsoft Store Support with the order or redemption details. |
| You cannot find purchase evidence in the accounts checked. | Check other likely purchase accounts before concluding that the game is unowned. |
For mobile or console, use the platform’s storefront
Do not apply Windows menus to a mobile or console purchase. Start by identifying the platform and the storefront account that may have made the purchase, then consult that store’s current official support for entitlement or account-recovery steps. Current step-by-step recovery instructions for PlayStation, Xbox console, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android are not established by the sources available for this guide.
An older community forum post describes Google Play account selection and family-library sharing, but it is anecdotal and not current official guidance; it should not be treated as a general Android fix. Minecraft Forum community post

What not to assume
- The wording “Minecraft License Error” or a Buy Now prompt does not, by itself, establish a particular cause or code-specific fix.
- Reinstalling the game, resetting a cache, or buying hardware does not transfer or recreate a purchase entitlement.
- A community reply is not an official service guarantee. If the purchase is documented but remains unrecognized, provide the platform’s support team with the relevant order or redemption evidence.
