Calling that a “PlayStation multiverse” is useful shorthand for the cross-game references—not evidence of a formally defined shared-fiction canon.
What is Astro Bot?
Astro Bot is a PS5 platform adventure developed by Team Asobi and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. PlayStation lists its release date as September 6, 2024. The game’s story follows Astro as he searches for his scattered crew across a series of worlds. PlayStation’s game page identifies the PS5 release and publisher.

How does Astro Bot connect to other PlayStation games?
The connection is made through collectible VIP and Cameo Bots: in-game versions of recognizable characters associated with PlayStation games. PlayStation’s character-history article describes them as “in-game versions of popular PlayStation-related characters.” They bring familiar faces into Astro’s adventure and frame the game as a celebration of PlayStation history.
That is a character-and-reference connection, not confirmation that the games share one official fictional universe. The cameo bots are part of Astro Bot; their appearances do not, by themselves, establish a single canon connecting the characters’ original stories.

How large is the adventure?
Team Asobi’s May 30, 2024 launch announcement describes six galaxies and more than 80 levels in Astro’s search for his crew. An earlier July 2024 controller announcement refers to more than 50 planets and PlayStation-infused characters to collect. These are different measures—levels and planets—and should not be treated as interchangeable counts.
The launch announcement also says the game has more than 15 new abilities. These abilities use the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, tying the adventure’s mechanics as well as its character cameos to PlayStation hardware.

What does the DualSense add?
Haptic feedback and adaptive triggers are part of the game’s intended play experience, including its new abilities. Team Asobi’s launch post describes those features as integrated into the abilities; it does not establish that a special controller is required. PlayStation also announced an Astro Bot Limited Edition DualSense controller in 2024, but that announcement is not evidence of current stock or availability.

The phrase captures the pleasure of encountering characters from across PlayStation-associated games in one Astro-led adventure. The more precise description is a platform-history tribute built around collectible cameos. PlayStation’s 2024 community-voted awards recap named Astro Bot the Platinum winner for Best Use of DualSense; that is a PlayStation Blog community award result, not an independent critics’ award.
