For an Alliance character, follow the Battle for Azeroth introduction into Boralus and continue until the portal room in the Sanctum of the Sages is established. Blizzard identifies “A Nation Divided” as part of the Alliance introductory quest series, but the official sources cited here do not identify the exact quest that activates the room. A player report says the Stormwind portal becomes available during that introductory progression. Blizzard’s catch-up guide · Player report
Which Boralus portal are you trying to unlock?
There are two routes to distinguish. The Boralus city portal room is inside the Sanctum of the Sages and is associated with the Boralus introduction. A separate portal back to Boralus is set up after establishing the Alliance base in Nazjatar; that is a later progression route, not the initial unlock for the city’s portal room. Blizzard’s portal-location guide · Blizzard’s catch-up guide
| Route | Where you use it | Progression associated with it | Destination |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boralus city portal room | Sanctum of the Sages in Boralus; the corresponding portal is in Stormwind’s Alliance portal room | Boralus introduction; the exact activating quest is not stated in the official sources cited here | Boralus |
| Nazjatar route | After establishing the Alliance base in Nazjatar | Setting up the Alliance base; Blizzard’s 2020 catch-up guide also lists legacy prerequisites for its sequence | Boralus |
How to unlock the Boralus city portal room
-
On an Alliance character that has not completed the Battle for Azeroth introduction, start the Alliance introductory questline and follow it into Boralus. Blizzard’s catch-up guidance names “A Nation Divided” as part of that introductory series. Blizzard’s catch-up guide
-
Continue the Boralus introduction until the Sanctum of the Sages and its portal room are set up. The exact quest that triggers the room is not confirmed by the official sources cited here, so do not rely on a particular quest name as the unlock requirement. A player report describes the room being established during the introduction as the practical condition for the Stormwind-to-Boralus portal. Player report

Use the portal room in the Sanctum of the Sages. To travel from Stormwind, look in the Alliance portal room there; a recent player report cautions that the Boralus portal’s placement may not be obvious from its map marker. Blizzard’s portal-location guide · Player report

Review your active quest state if you are unsure whether the introduction is complete. Blizzard’s catch-up guide identifies “A Nation Divided” as introductory progress, but that alone does not establish a universal fix for a missing Stormwind portal. A separate support discussion concerns a Silithus-to-Boralus portal, which is a different route. Blizzard’s catch-up guide · Support discussion

The separate Nazjatar-to-Boralus route
Blizzard’s 2020 catch-up guide says a portal to Boralus is set up after the Alliance base in Nazjatar is established. For that legacy sequence, it lists level 120, the Alliance introduction through “A Nation Divided,” and Battle for Azeroth World Quest unlock progress through “Uniting Kul Tiras” among the prerequisites. Those requirements describe the guide’s Nazjatar catch-up path; they should not be treated as the confirmed current requirements for unlocking the Boralus city portal room. Blizzard’s catch-up guide

The location of the Boralus portal room and the broad connection to the Alliance introduction are documented, but the exact quest that activates it is not named in the official sources cited here. The account that the Stormwind portal appears after setting up the room comes from a player report, not an official walkthrough. Blizzard’s portal-location guide dates to 2019 and its catch-up guide to 2020, so details from those guides may not reflect every current character-level or leveling-path variation.
