Finish Act 1 or Act 2 of a Zone with at least 50 Rings. A giant Ring appears at the goal area; jump into it to enter the Special Stage.
How to enter the Special Stage
- Collect at least 50 Rings during Act 1 or Act 2 of a Zone.
- Reach and clear the Act while still holding those Rings.
- At the goal area, find the giant Ring that appears.
- Jump into the Ring to warp to the Special Stage.
SEGA’s Sonic Origins Plus online manual states: “Complete Act 1 or 2 of a Zone while holding 50 or more Rings, and a giant Ring will appear at the goal area.” It then instructs players to “Jump into the Ring to warp to the Special Stage.”

What to do in the Special Stage
The Special Stage is a rotating maze. Guide Sonic toward the Chaos Emerald, avoiding Goal Blocks: collecting the Emerald or touching a Goal Block ends the stage. This objective and ending condition are described in SEGA’s Sonic Origins Plus English manual.
Which version does this apply to?
These instructions are documented for the 1991 Sonic the Hedgehog game in SEGA’s Sonic Origins Plus manual. “Sonic 1” can also refer to later ports, and the cited manual does not establish that every release behaves identically. It does not give a specific button input, timing window, or list of Zone exceptions.
