There is no single vanilla Minecraft item called Spell Blade established by the available sources. If you mean the Spell Blade from Ancient Spellcraft, an add-on for Electroblob’s Wizardry, wear the Battlemage armor set whose element matches the blade, then check that item’s tooltip and your installed recipe viewer for its exact controls and effects. The mod’s published information does not establish one universal activation button or a complete set of blade-specific instructions.
First, identify which Spell Blade you have
“Spell Blade” refers to modded items, not one universal Minecraft weapon. Check the mod name, Minecraft version, and loader shown in your mod list before following instructions. Two distinct items documented here illustrate why that matters:

The version distinction is significant: the documented Ancient Spellcraft release is for Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge, while Iron’s Botany lists Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge. An item guide for one implementation may not describe the other.
Using an Ancient Spellcraft Spell Blade
- Confirm the mod and version. Make sure the item comes from Ancient Spellcraft and that the pack is running the compatible Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge setup listed on its project page.
- Equip Battlemage armor with the matching element. Ancient Spellcraft describes Spell Blades as Battlemage weapons whose effects depend on the element of the Battlemage armor set you wear. The source does not provide a complete element-by-element effect list.
- Read the item tooltip in your installed pack. Check for blade-specific details and any listed controls. The published information does not establish a universal right-click action, mana cost, or activation sequence for every Spell Blade.
- Check the recipe viewer for your pack. Use JEI or another recipe viewer if installed, and look up the blade and any related Arcane Anvil recipe. Ancient Spellcraft references Arcane Anvil functionality and related recipes, but its project information does not settle every blade’s exact acquisition steps.
If the blade does not behave as expected, confirm the worn armor’s element and recheck the item’s tooltip and recipes against the mod version actually installed. Do not assume that carrying full Battlemage gear alone proves the right element is equipped or that a control described for another mod applies.

What if the item is from Iron’s Botany?
Iron’s Botany has a separate Terrasteel Spell Blade for Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge. Its item-specific statistics and acquisition details belong to that implementation, not Ancient Spellcraft’s Spell Blades. Check the Iron’s Botany project page and the item information in your installed pack rather than mixing instructions between mods.

The available Ancient Spellcraft information does not give reliable, complete per-blade instructions for activation, attack effects, mana costs, or exact acquisition. Because these details can differ by item and installed version, use the in-game tooltip and recipe viewer as the authority for your pack instead of guessing a mouse button or borrowing stats from another Spell Blade mod.
