Techland says the main story in Dying Light: The Beast takes around 20–40 hours to finish. The developer also describes the overall adventure as offering 40+ hours of gameplay, but that broader figure is not a guaranteed completion time or a precise 100% benchmark. Optional activities, survival settings and replay features can all change how long you play.
How long does it take to beat Dying Light: The Beast?
Techland’s official FAQ gives the clearest current estimate: “Finishing the main story takes around 20-40 hours.” Treat that as a range for the main story, not a promise that every playthrough will take the same amount of time.
The same FAQ describes the game as offering “40+ hours of survival-adventure gameplay.” That is a wider description of the adventure, not an exact time for completing every mission, finding every collectible or reaching 100% completion.
How long is the story with side content?
In a July 21, 2025 GamesRadar+ interview, Techland franchise director Tymon Smektala estimated about 20 hours for the story, with secrets and side activities adding “at least another 20, 30 hours.” This earlier estimate predates the current Restored Land package, so keep it separate from Techland’s present 20–40-hour main-story range.

GamesRadar+’s writer reported a 52-hour playthrough and suggested a very thorough run could reach 60 hours. Those are one writer’s experience and editorial estimate, not an average or an official completion target.
What can change your playtime?
Optional exploration and activities
Secrets and side activities are the clearest reason a playthrough can extend beyond the story. Techland’s earlier estimate puts that extra content at 20–30 hours or more, but the current FAQ does not give a definitive full-clear time.

Restored Land
Restored Land is an alternative, more demanding solo survival experience with limited resources, permanent consequences and optional one-life rules. Techland says it was designed as a solo experience, and does not publish a separate completion-time estimate for it. The standard story estimate should not be treated as a measured Restored Land time.
Difficulty and co-op
The game lists Story, Survival, Brutal and Nightmare difficulties, with Nightmare described as the most demanding. A tougher setting may affect your pace, but Techland has not published hours by difficulty. Co-op supports up to four players sharing progression; there is no official time multiplier for playing together.

New Game+ and post-story progression
New Game+ lets you replay while retaining gear and progression, with difficulty rising on repeat runs. Legend Levels extend progression beyond level 15 with further upgrades and rewards. These features give you reasons to continue after the story, but neither has a published extra-hours estimate.

| What you are measuring | Published estimate | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Main story | Around 20–40 hours (Techland’s current FAQ, crawled October 8, 2026) | The best current estimate for finishing the story. |
| Overall adventure | 40+ hours (Techland’s current FAQ, crawled October 8, 2026) | A broad gameplay description, not a guaranteed 100% time. |
| Story plus optional content | About 20 hours for the story, plus at least 20–30 hours for additional content (director’s estimate reported July 21, 2025) | An earlier estimate for secrets and side activities, not a current full-clear guarantee. |
| One reported playthrough | 52 hours; up to 60 hours for a very thorough run (GamesRadar+ writer, July 2025) | An individual account and editorial estimate, not a population average. |
No official estimate breaks playtime down by platform, difficulty, co-op or 100% completion. Techland says the game launched September 18, 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5 / PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S. Its FAQ says the enhanced package, including the base experience, prior updates and Restored Land, has been available since March 26, 2026.
