First rescue the Enchantsmith in the Highblock Halls mission. If you mean vanilla Minecraft, its enchanting systems work differently.
How to reroll an enchantment in Minecraft Dungeons
- Rescue the Enchantsmith. Find the merchant during the Highblock Halls mission and free him.
- Return to camp. The Enchantsmith will appear there after the rescue.
- Choose eligible weapon or armor gear. Select the item and the enchantment slot you want to change.
- Pay the gold cost. The Enchantsmith replaces the selected enchantment with a random new one; you cannot choose or guarantee a particular result. His in-game description says, “Replaces a random enchantment with a new enchantment.”
- Reinvest enchantment points. Points spent on the rerolled enchantment are returned, so you can put them toward the new result.
What to know before spending gold
The result is random
Rerolling is a gamble, not a way to select a specific enchantment. Compare the current enchantment with what would actually help your build, and consider whether the possible improvement is worth the gold. The cited Minecraft Wiki pages do not establish odds for getting any particular enchantment.
Costs and gold sources
The Minecraft Wiki reports that the starting reroll price depends on the item’s power, repeated rerolls increase the price by 10%, and the price caps at 100 gold. These are community-maintained, balance-sensitive values; check the cost shown in your game rather than assuming they apply unchanged to every version. The Wiki also lists Ancient Hunt chests and defeated mobs as gold sources, and reports a 30-gold-ingot completion reward.
Gear and enchantment outcomes can vary
Available enchantment slots and choices depend on the equipment. On gilded gear, the Minecraft Wiki notes an advanced exception: rerolling can sometimes produce a duplicate of an enchantment already present in the gilded slot, allowing as many as four copies in some cases. Treat this as a possible outcome, not a reliable strategy.

If you mean vanilla Minecraft
Vanilla Minecraft does not have the Minecraft Dungeons Enchantsmith. Its enchanting ecosystem instead includes enchanting tables, librarian villagers who sell enchanted books, and anvils for combining enchantments. See Microsoft’s enchantment documentation for that game’s mechanics.

These camp merchants do different jobs. The Enchantsmith randomly replaces a selected enchantment for gold. The Blacksmith upgrades items; the official Minecraft Dungeons developer blog explains that an upgrade returns spent enchantment points when it begins and retains the item’s enchantments.
