Hollow Knight Save Manager is a Java-based utility that loads save files into four working slots and lets you edit inventory and charm data. Install Java 8, point the program to the folder containing your saves, then load or open the profile you want to work on. Make a separate backup before editing: the project README does not document an automatic backup or recovery feature.
Install and open the manager

Install Java 8, as specified by the project README.

Download the JAR from the project’s Releases page. The README’s example command is
java -jar HKSMv0.3.2.jar; use the actual filename you downloaded if its version differs. Windows users can also double-click the JAR. -
Put the JAR in the Hollow Knight save folder, or launch it from another location and set the save location in the manager.

These are the README’s listed paths, not a guarantee that every installation uses them. The community-maintained Hollow Knight Wiki’s save-file reference lists the same standard profile directories and identifies profiles as user#.dat; check the folder used by your own installation before loading or saving.
Back up the profile before editing
Close Hollow Knight, then copy the profile you intend to edit to a separate location outside the working save folder. The README documents file-changing actions but does not explain automatic backups or a recovery procedure. Keeping an untouched copy gives you a way to restore the original if you save an unintended change.
Load a save into a working slot
The main window has four loaded save slots on the left. The file tree shows the saves available in the selected folder. Confirm that the manager is pointed at the folder containing the intended profile before using the controls.

>: Save the contents of that slot into the selected save file.

Floppy-disk control: Save the slot’s contents as a new file.

Double-click a save file in the tree to open it in the editor instead of loading it through a slot. Before using the save-to-selected-file control, check which file is selected; use the save-to-new-file control when you want to keep the edited version separate.

The Inventory tab contains health, soul, geo, and items. Review the values you intend to change before saving.
Charms
The Charms tab lets you set which charms are owned and equipped, adjust charm notch cost, and manually activate overcharmed status.

After editing, choose whether to save the slot over the selected profile or save it as a new file. Confirm the selected target before writing changes.

Restart Hollow Knight and check the intended profile in the game.

Keep the untouched backup until you have confirmed that the edited profile works as expected.
The README does not describe overwrite prompts, conflict handling, or recovery after an accidental save. These steps are precautions; they do not imply that the manager provides a safeguard for those cases.
Platform support and Switch caveat
The repository describes the manager as supporting Windows, Linux, Mac, and Switch. Its displayed setup instructions give save paths for Windows, macOS, and Linux only. They do not provide a Switch-specific installation or save-location workflow, so the desktop instructions should not be treated as Switch setup guidance.
