To get the mint in Grounded, find the Ice Caps Mint Container near the starting area, slap its lid open, then break the mint pieces inside with an Insect Hammer. The resource is now called Mint Shards; older guides may call it Mint Chunks.
How to open the Ice Caps Mint Container
- Find the Ice Caps Mint Container near the early-game starting area.
- Slap the lid to open it.
- Equip an Insect Hammer and strike the mint pieces inside to harvest them.
A 2021 Windows Central guide documents opening the lid and breaking the mints with an Insect Hammer. It does not establish that a particular crouch, jump, or side-entry maneuver is required, so try the lid first rather than relying on a specific entry route.
What the mint is called in current terminology
Use Mint Shards for the harvested resource. Obsidian’s Hot and Hazy update notes say the former name, Mint Chunks, was changed to Mint Shards. The notes also explain why older guides and player discussions may use a different name.
Do not confuse the resource with the weapon: Obsidian’s January 2021 update notes state that the Mint Mallet was renamed the Mint Mace.

About the Insect Hammer recipe
The 2021 guide lists materials for crafting an Insect Hammer, but that recipe may no longer match the current game. Check the in-game crafting requirements rather than relying on an older materials list.
