For a non-subscriber watching an eligible live channel, Twitch lists a baseline of 10 Channel Points per five minutes—about 2 points per minute. Twitch also lists a separate 50-point active-watching bonus every 15 minutes, which you must click to claim. These are Twitch’s published rates checked on October 8, 2026; Twitch says rates can change.
How many points can you earn per hour?
At the listed baseline rate, a non-subscriber would earn 120 points in an hour of eligible live viewing: 10 points per five-minute interval. That is an arithmetic estimate from Twitch’s rate, not a separate hourly rate published by Twitch.
The active-watching bonus can add more. Twitch lists 50 points every 15 minutes, claimed by clicking the notification in chat. If you watch for 30 minutes, the baseline is 60 points; claiming both 15-minute bonuses would add 100, for 160 points total before any other awards. This example assumes the listed rates apply and both notifications appear and are claimed; it is not a guaranteed result.
A useful estimate for a non-subscriber is: 10 × completed five-minute watch intervals + 50 × claimed 15-minute bonuses. Your actual total depends on eligibility, starting balance, subscription tier and bonuses you claim.

Where do Channel Points accrue?
Points accrue for a channel when you are logged in and watching an enrolled channel. They belong to that channel: you cannot transfer them to another creator’s channel. Twitch says points do not expire, but points for a channel are lost if its creator takes the channel down.
Twitch says watching an embedded stream on another website does not earn points. Watch on the channel page at twitch.tv or in the Twitch app instead. You can see your balance in chat. As Twitch’s Viewer Channel Points Guide puts it, “You will earn Channel Points periodically as you watch enrolled channels.”

Why might points be missing?
- Check that you are logged in. Points are tied to your Twitch account.
- Confirm the channel has Channel Points enabled. Not every channel is enrolled.
- Claim the bonus notification. The 50-point active-watching award requires clicking its chat notification.
- Use Twitch directly. Twitch says watching an embed on another site does not earn points.
- Check Firefox tracking protection. Twitch says Firefox Enhanced Tracking Protection can block events used to track watch time. Twitch’s documented workaround is to disable it for twitch.tv or add an exception, then refresh the page.
Do reward costs or cooldowns change how quickly you earn?
No. Creators set the cost of their custom rewards and can limit how often viewers redeem them; those settings govern spending, not watch-time accrual. Twitch’s creator guide says cooldowns can be set from one minute to seven days, and creators can limit redemptions per stream or per user.
