In Calamity, summon the Empress of Light by killing a Prismatic Lacewing. Find one on the surface Hallow between 7:30 PM and midnight after Hardmode begins; the Lacewing is the trigger, not a separate summoning item.
Where and when to find a Prismatic Lacewing
The Official Calamity Mod Wiki says Prismatic Lacewings spawn in the surface Hallow at night, from 7:30 PM to 12:00 AM, once Hardmode has started. Search the Hallow’s surface during that window for the rare critter. Official Calamity Mod Wiki: Empress of Light

How to trigger the boss
- Go to the surface Hallow after Hardmode begins.
- Look for a Prismatic Lacewing between 7:30 PM and midnight.
- Kill it. A player-caused death summons the Empress of Light.
The Calamity wiki notes that the Lacewing can be killed in any biome, but it disappears almost immediately outside the Hallow. Killing one in its natural habitat is therefore the straightforward approach. Official Calamity Mod Wiki: Empress of Light Official Terraria Wiki: Prismatic Lacewing
Can you catch a Lacewing and use it later?
Yes. A Bug Net or an upgrade can catch a Prismatic Lacewing, allowing you to save it for later. If you release it outside the Hallow, act quickly: it despawns almost immediately there, so kill it before it disappears to summon the boss. Official Terraria Wiki: Prismatic Lacewing

What if the Empress is already alive?

For Calamity, the Official Calamity Mod Wiki gives Hardmode as the progression requirement for the Lacewing’s natural spawn. The Official Terraria Wiki lists a different vanilla progression gate: Plantera must be defeated. Do not apply that vanilla requirement when following the Calamity-specific spawn instructions here.
