If by “Crucible Sword” you mean Ordovis’s Greatsword, it is a strong PvE weapon for a Strength-focused build—especially when you can safely charge Ordovis’s Vortex. The charged skill can deal substantial stance damage, but its wind-up, stat requirements, and fixed weapon setup make it a conditional pick rather than a universally best sword. The available figures do not establish a current ranking against other weapons.
Which weapon is the “Crucible Sword”?
“Crucible Sword” is ambiguous; this assessment is about Ordovis’s Greatsword, a greatsword associated with a Crucible Knight. Its item description calls it the “Greatsword of Ordovis, one of the two honored as foremost among the Crucible Knights.” That is in-game lore, not a claim that it is foremost in player damage or overall performance. Eldenpedia’s item reference lists its skill as Ordovis’s Vortex.
What makes Ordovis’s Greatsword strong?
Ordovis’s Vortex rewards a successful charge
The skill spins the sword and brings it down in a slam. Eldenpedia’s skill reference lists the uncharged sword hit at 154% of base weapon attack power, followed by a holy shockwave at 77%. For the charged use, it lists a sword hit at 160% plus three shockwaves: the first two at 66% each and the final one at 77%. It can put meaningful pressure on enemy stance
The same reference lists stance damage of 19.25 for the uncharged sword hit and 55 for the charged sword hit. The slam and shockwaves make the skill useful for PvE encounters where you can land it; a successful stance break can create an opening for follow-up damage. The payoff depends on connecting, and a full charge takes time and precise timing.

Strength is the main build direction
Although the skill has a holy visual effect, the skill reference says it scales with weapon attack power and identifies Strength as its primary scaling attribute. The sword has both physical and holy attack values, so prioritize Strength for its physical attack and skill after meeting the requirements. Its listed Faith scaling and requirement still matter; the available figures do not establish that Faith is irrelevant to every part of its damage.

When is it a good choice?
- Choose it for PvE stance pressure if you can find safe openings to charge Ordovis’s Vortex and connect with the slam.
- Check the stat cost against your build: the 25 Strength one-handed requirement (17 two-handed), plus 13 Dexterity and 15 Faith, may compete with other level priorities.
- Consider enemy movement and pressure. Against targets that leave little time to charge, the skill’s stronger listed charged hit may be harder to realize.
- Account for its fixed setup. Its skill and weapon properties cannot be changed through infusion or buffs, unlike weapons that support more customization.
- Keep its damage profile in mind. Its listed base attack combines physical and holy damage; effective damage can vary by target, so the displayed figures alone do not determine performance in every fight.
How current is its comparative strength?
Bandai Namco Europe’s Patch Notes 1.07 include Ordovis’s Vortex in a skill list, but the cited excerpt does not specify what exact change applied to it. The item and skill references also do not clearly identify the game version behind each displayed value. Those sources therefore do not settle its present-day comparative balance or show that it outranks other greatswords.
