To beat the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master, use the spider sisters’ opening to deal measured damage, then stay mobile and take short attacks when the boss finishes a move. Avoid standing beneath it during burrows, and save healing and a major damage option for its lightning-heavy Golden Phase. Weaver’s Needle makes that final phase easier, but it is optional.
Where to find the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master
The Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master is Chapter 4’s end boss, fought at the Court of Illumination in the Temple of the Yellow Flower. From the Court of Illumination shrine, the arena is directly ahead, making retries straightforward. Black Myth Guide’s boss page gives the route and encounter details.
How to prepare
There is no universally optimal build established for this fight. Guide recommendations include improving survivability and shock resistance, upgrading the gourd, and planning when to spend major resources; how much these help depends on your build and comfort with the boss. PowerPyx’s guide discusses these options, not mandatory requirements.
- Decide in advance which healing and high-damage resources you will hold for the late phase.
- If you have defeated Duskveil in the Purple Cloud Mountain secret area, equip Weaver’s Needle. It is helpful, but you can win without it.
Use the opening without spending everything
On the first encounter, the spider sisters attack and distract the boss, giving you a chance to land early damage. Take advantage of the opening, but do not spend every major spell or damage resource before the more dangerous late phase.

PowerPyx and Twinfinite report that on subsequent attempts the boss starts at about 80% health. Treat this as guide-reported retry behavior rather than a guaranteed mechanic across every game version. Twinfinite’s guide also covers the encounter’s attack patterns.
How to handle burrows and close-range attacks
When the boss burrows, keep moving and avoid staying beneath its body. Guides describe a particularly dangerous grab among its underground attacks. Do not chase it or commit to a long combo while it is moving; wait for the attack to finish or for the boss to recommit, then take a short punish.

Its long, shifting body can make lock-on and hit placement unreliable. Aim for a reachable leg or its side, use brief attack strings, and reposition when your hits stop connecting. Twinfinite warns that frontal heavy attacks can miss, so do not force them into an awkward angle.
Survive the lightning-heavy Golden Phase
The late Golden Phase brings stronger, wider attacks and lightning threats, including a lightning sword and overhead strike cues described by the guides. Move out of marked impact areas and prioritize a clear dodge over squeezing in extra damage. This is the point to use the healing and major damage resources you saved.

If you have Weaver’s Needle, use it at the transition into the gold or empowered phase: the guides describe it as disrupting or canceling that state and opening a chance to attack. Without the Needle, the fight is still beatable; keep prioritizing safe movement and use a strong Spirit or another major damage option during a real opening.
Is Weaver’s Needle required?
No. Weaver’s Needle is optional. You obtain it through the Purple Cloud Mountain secret-area route by defeating Duskveil. The detour is worthwhile if you want help disrupting the Golden Phase; otherwise, you can learn the phase’s attack windows and save another major resource for it. The guides describe the Vessel as useful, not necessary.
