Prepare for the fight
- Consider a parry-capable option. PC Gamer recommends acquiring a parry-capable Forma from a Jadwiga’s Minion in MagMell. Game8 suggests the Mutinous Bracer Forma or Reaper jail for parrying. These are recommendations, not stated requirements. PC Gamer’s guide and Game8’s guide describe the options.
- Bring Noah if you want help drawing aggro. PC Gamer recommends him because Franz may focus on Noah, creating chances to attack. The guide also reports that Noah can revive you if you fall, then temporarily retreats before returning.
- Do not treat a particular level as required. The available guides do not establish a recommended level or minimum build. A Phrasemaker writer reports winning at level 27 with a Rank-C Blood Code, but that is one player’s account, not a verified threshold: Phrasemaker’s account.
Phase one: parry melee strings and punish the recovery
Franz presses with claw and sword or bayonet attacks, including a claw dash and lance thrust sequences that Game8 describes as relatively telegraphed. If parrying suits your timing and setup, use it against these melee attacks to create a safer opening. Otherwise, evade and wait for the sequence to end before counterattacking.
Respond to the claw combo
Game8 describes a three-hit melee sequence and a ground smash within a claw combo. A dodge toward the ground smash can put you close enough to exploit the recovery. Avoid attacking into the start of a string; use the end of the combo or a successful parry as your cue.

Handle delayed bullets and use Noah’s distraction
When Franz fires delayed shots, PC Gamer advises against dodging too early; sprinting sideways can avoid them. If Franz is attacking Noah, use that time for a slower attack. PC Gamer gives Idris’s Conceit as an example, while noting that its long windup leaves you vulnerable if Franz turns back to you.
Phase two: prioritize evasion against beams and projectiles
Phase two adds or emphasizes a teleporting follow-up combo and ranged attacks. Game8 says the ranged moves cannot be parried, so shift from trying to parry everything to running or dodging out of danger.

React to the teleport combo
PC Gamer describes a teleport followed by three hits. If you can read the timing, parrying the first hit may interrupt the sequence and create an opening. If you are unsure of the timing, evade the string and attack only after Franz finishes.
Move through beams; roll away from the slow projectile
Dodge through sweeping beams rather than trying to parry them. For the slow projectile that can immobilize you, roll sideways to get clear. Keep moving while Franz is targeting you, and avoid long attack windups until he is committed to another target or has finished a sequence.

What defeating Franz unlocks
PC Gamer says victory changes the past so Noah survives and becomes available as a companion in the present. Game8 lists the reward as Superbia Bloodline: Frantz—spelled “Frantz” in the reward name—and says the fight unlocks the A Friend’s Wish achievement.
