Rockstar’s official Xbox 360 guidance does not provide a way to download or install GTA V mods. Its USB-drive instructions explain how to install the game itself—not how to add mods. Rockstar does warn that online modding and related conduct can lead to account suspension; its guidance does not establish whether particular offline save modifications are authorized or compatible.
Does Rockstar provide a way to download GTA 5 mods on Xbox 360?
No mod-download or mod-installation procedure appears in Rockstar’s official Xbox 360 support guidance. The instructions cover installing and playing the two-disc game. They do not describe using a USB drive to add mods, and they should not be treated as support for third-party downloads or methods that bypass console security.

That distinction matters because searches for “mods” may surface Rockstar’s USB installation requirements. Those requirements are for the base game, not a modding workflow.
What Rockstar says about installing GTA V on Xbox 360
Rockstar’s Xbox 360 and PS3 installation requirements, last updated April 17, 2024, describe a two-disc release: Disc 1 performs a one-time mandatory install, and Disc 2 is used to play.
#1 Best Overall
- The initial install requires either an Xbox 360 hard drive or a USB flash drive with 16 GB capacity and at least 8 GB free.
- For the USB option, Rockstar specifies USB 2.0, a minimum read speed of 15 MB/s, and formatting for Xbox 360 use. Rockstar recommends a new USB drive for performance.
- Rockstar recommends installing only the Install Disc through the game’s prompt, rather than installing the Play Disc through Xbox Home.
These are game-installation requirements, not instructions for downloading or installing mods. In a separate article updated January 8, 2024, Rockstar recommends an internal Xbox 360 HDD or USB flash drive for best performance; it does not turn that storage advice into a modding method. See Rockstar’s guidance on external HDDs for GTA V Xbox 360 installation.
What are the risks of using mods online?
Rockstar’s account-impact guidance, last updated May 20, 2024, says accounts may be suspended or banned for conduct involving online mods, exploits, or abuse of the game or other players’ experience. It lists online-game modding, exploiting online mechanics, money lobbies, account boosting or recovery, promoting abuse or glitching methods, promoting online modding, manipulating protected game data or code, and interfering with other players.

Rockstar states: “Rockstar Games account suspensions are triggered by violating our Terms of Service in one of our titles, including by modding in online games, exploiting or abusing game mechanics in online games, participating in ‘money lobbies,’ account boosting, account ‘recovery’, promoting methods of abuse/glitching, promoting modding of online games, manipulating protected game data and code, or interfering with other players’ gameplay experience.” Read the Rockstar account-impact article for its full scope.

The cited Rockstar articles do not settle whether specific offline save-modification methods are authorized, compatible with a particular Xbox 360 setup, or safe to use. They address game installation and account consequences for online modding and related conduct. So it would be inaccurate to infer either that Rockstar approves offline modifications or that every offline method is impossible.
