To beat tough Episode Battle fights more reliably, keep moving, defend against attacks you can read, and spend Ki only when you have a clear opening. A practical loop is: evade or guard, punish with a Rush Chain or charged Smash, then follow the knockback with a homing attack. It is a mechanics-based approach, not a guaranteed boss exploit; exact difficulty can vary by game update.
Why Episode Battle fights can feel difficult
Episode Battle follows eight character perspectives: Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, Future Trunks, Goku Black, Frieza, and Jiren. Choices, victory conditions, and secondary objectives can open alternate scenarios. The story map tracks progress and lets you revisit choices, so a fight may ask you to do more than simply win.
Some early fights drew attention for their difficulty even in the pre-release demo. That is not evidence of current balance: official updates have since adjusted Episode Battle difficulty and CPU behavior. Treat the tactics below as general guidance rather than a claim that every boss behaves identically.
Use a repeatable combat loop
1. Keep moving, but save Ki-heavy movement for when it matters
Use Short Dash to reposition forward or sideways instead of standing still. The official combat guide notes it can help dodge some attacks, including certain Blast Attacks. Dragon Dash closes distance quickly but consumes Ki, so use it to reach an opening or pursue a launched opponent rather than holding it continuously.

2. Start with guard and timed evasion
Guard is the dependable first response to pressure; use its high- or low-direction options as appropriate. High-Speed Evasion can avoid some attacks when timed just before impact and may create a chance to counter. More technical options—Super Perception, Z-Counters, Revenge Counter, and Super Counter—have distinct requirements, and some demand precise timing or resources. If you are losing exchanges, simplify: guard or evade first, then attack when the opponent leaves an opening.
3. Convert an opening into a combo and follow-up
Rush Chains let you build longer hand-to-hand combos. A charged Smash can knock an opponent away; follow with Dragon Homing or Vanishing Attack when the situation allows. The goal is to turn a successful defense into a reliable punish, not to force a single move against every boss.

4. Watch Ki and Skill Count before committing
Ki powers Super Attacks and movement, and connecting hand-to-hand combos also raises it slightly. You can charge Ki directly, but spending it on repeated dashes and blasts can leave too little for the next opening. If Ki is depleted far enough, movement can be restricted until it recovers. Sparking! Mode requires full Ki and at least one Skill Count, so check both resources before trying to activate it.
5. Read the HUD and the battle objective
Keep an eye on HP, Ki, Skill Count, and the timer. If the episode may branch, distinguish the basic battle win from any route condition or secondary objective. The story map can help you track progress and revisit choices, but the official guides do not provide a complete current list of boss-specific thresholds or route timers.

Choose a defense by risk and payoff

When the same fight feels different
Do not assume the difficulty is fixed across versions. Bandai Namco’s January 2025 notice said Episode Battle difficulty could be changed even when using a Dragon Orb. A May 2026 notice reported difficulty adjustments to some Episode Battle stages in response to battle-system changes. A September 2026 notice identified version 3022.021.003.012.015 and said CPU behavior had been adjusted; it also noted a trophy fix for Jiren’s Episode Battle. These dated changes are why a tactic should be treated as general advice, not a promise of identical behavior on every platform or update.

The official combat guidance supports mobility, defensive timing, combo follow-ups, and deliberate Ki use. It does not establish a universal boss exploit or a complete boss-by-boss solution list. For a particular fight, apply the loop to the attacks you can read and check whether the episode objective requires anything beyond victory.
