Comets patrol outdoor areas, but there is no confirmed guaranteed spawn point—and recent updates changed how often they appear on some maps.
How to get a Comet Igniter

Search outdoors for a Comet patrolling the surface. Embark describes it as a spherical ARC machine that patrols until it detects a Raider; see the Shrouded Sky announcement.

Attack promptly and destroy it before it completes its self-detonation. Gameplay guides report that a Comet that detonates on its own does not leave a usable Igniter.

Search the Comet’s remains for the Igniter. The exact wreck container to check is described in gameplay guides, but Embark’s official materials do not specify it.

Secure the item and extract. If you die before securing it, you may need to repeat the hunt.
Where Comets spawn
Comets patrol the surface, so search outdoor areas rather than relying on a particular indoor location. Embark’s announcement does not give exact coordinates or guarantee a spawn in any specific raid.
Map selection matters: in the Riven Tides patch 1.26.0 notes, Embark said Comets were removed from standard Dam Battlegrounds sessions and reduced in Buried City. The notes do not provide a complete map-by-map spawn list. Treat outdoor searching on other maps as a chance to encounter one, not a guarantee.
Older guides that say Comets spawn on every map except Stella Montis predate that distribution change, so they should not be taken as current, unqualified location advice.

Why you must destroy the Comet before it explodes
The acquisition guides say the Comet must be defeated before its own detonation. If it finishes charging and explodes on its own, it does not yield the usable Comet Igniter. Engage as soon as you spot one rather than waiting for it to approach.

The Collision Course quest requires you to destroy a Comet and deliver one Comet Igniter to Tian Wen. A safe-pocket augment can reduce the chance of losing a successful pickup if you die before extraction; GameSpot recommends this as risk-reduction advice, not as a requirement for obtaining the item.
