The Gluttonous Yumkasaur Mountain King is a Natlan boss, with Tequemecan Valley as its regional context. Open the in-game map and use the boss marker to locate the arena. The available official location information does not spell out a precise route, so use the live map for the current waypoint and approach rather than relying on unverified tunnel or entrance directions. HoYoverse introduced Natlan and Version 5.0 on August 28, 2024 (HoYoverse’s Version 5.0 announcement); the official boss entry and regional information are available through HoYoWiki. How to beat the boss with Flamegranates
The encounter’s defining mechanic is the Flamegranate. The in-game tutorial, reproduced on HoYoWiki, explains: “It will collect Flamegranates during combat and spit them out as bombs.” It adds: “However, if you can use Pyro to ignite the Flamegranates before the Gluttonous Yumkasaur Mountain King can swallow them, who knows what might happen…”
Use Pyro before the boss swallows one
- Bring a Pyro character so you can apply Pyro to a Flamegranate during the relevant boss sequence.
- Watch for the boss to collect a Flamegranate. Apply Pyro before it swallows the fruit.
- Look for the resulting explosion after the boss swallows the ignited Flamegranate. A Pyro hit alone does not establish that the explosion occurred.
- If pursuing the achievement that requires the boss to be defeated by an exploding Flamegranate, time the explosion to deliver the finishing blow.
This mechanic is useful for the Flamegranate-related achievements, including igniting one before it is swallowed, triggering Melt with an exploding Flamegranate, and defeating the boss with one. The achievement entry also lists a Co-Op Mode defeat condition. Check the in-game achievement descriptions for their exact completion status (HoYoWiki boss and achievement entry).
Use a straightforward damage approach if achievements are not your goal
You can focus on dealing damage if you are only trying to defeat the boss; the evidence available does not establish a universally best team or a damage ranking. Use the Flamegranate sequence when you specifically need its achievement conditions rather than assuming any Pyro hit will satisfy them.
Watch for the overhead-branch leap
A secondary strategy guide describes a leap from an overhead branch followed by a landing at the player’s location. Treat it as a move to watch for, not as the basis for a guaranteed counter: the official tutorial guidance focuses on Flamegranates (Game8’s boss guide).

The official boss entry lists Overripe Flamegranate; Nagadus Emerald Sliver, Fragment, Chunk, and Gemstone; and the Berserker, Instructor, Adventurer, Gladiator’s Finale, and Wanderer’s Troupe artifact sets. It does not state drop probabilities or guarantee specific quantities per run, so treat these as possible listed drops rather than a promised reward for each defeat (HoYoWiki boss entry).
The listed achievement hooks are distinct: igniting a Flamegranate before it is swallowed, using an exploding Flamegranate to trigger Melt, defeating the boss with an exploding Flamegranate, and defeating it in Co-Op Mode. For the explosion-based conditions, confirm that the relevant event occurred; applying Pyro by itself is not proof of completion.
