Where to search for Rusted Gears
The community-maintained ARC Raiders Wiki Rusted Gear page lists scavenging sources and candidate areas across several maps. Treat these as places to check, not guaranteed spawns: published guidance does not provide verified drop rates.
The Blue Gate
Start with Checkpoint and Warehouse. Look for cars and buses, including car hoods and breachable bus panels. These zones are specifically recommended because of their vehicle density, but the guide also warns of player traffic and ARC presence.
Dam Battlegrounds
Check Scrap Yard, the Hydroponic Dome and Power Generation Complexes, and Water Treatment Control. Prioritize the listed industrial containers and vehicle sources you encounter in these areas.

Rocket Assembly and Vehicle Maintenance are named candidate areas. Search the available industrial loot containers rather than relying on a single room or object.
Buried City
Parking Garage and Warehouse are listed search areas. A PC Gamer guide published November 11, 2025 describes a route through Warehouse, Marano Station, and Parking Garage. It does not establish a guaranteed yield or measured drop rate.
Which containers to check
Across those areas, the item page identifies these scavenging sources:
- Buses, including breachable panels
- Car hoods and car tool cabinets
- Control panels
- Metal crates
- Mobile generators
- Industrial drawers
The community-maintained item page calls Rusted Gear a very rare spawn. No source cited here verifies exact odds, so there is no substantiated number of gears to expect per raid. A Destructoid guide describes the item more broadly as appearing in many containers; the specific container list above is more useful for directing your search, but it does not prove that other containers are impossible sources.

How to search without wasting a run
- Choose a candidate zone. Use the map areas above as a starting point, not as a fixed spawn route. If taking the Blue Gate recommendation, focus your search around Checkpoint or Warehouse.
- Work through likely sources. Check the listed vehicle and industrial containers as you move through the area. On the Blue Gate, pay particular attention to car hoods and breachable bus panels.
- Account for exposure. The item guide warns of ARC presence and player traffic in its recommended Blue Gate zones. Its suggested precautions include upgraded breaching and carrying items such as Adrenaline, Zip Lines, or Smoke Grenades to help leave quickly. These are the guide’s recommendations, not independently tested guarantees of safety.
- Extract when you have what you need. The guide suggests using a Safe Pocket to retain the gear if knocked out and notes that a free loadout does not provide one. Confirm your current loadout and upgrade needs before committing to a risky search.
Should you keep, recycle, or salvage a Rusted Gear?
The community item page describes Rusted Gear as a Rare recyclable item used for the Gunsmith upgrade. It lists the Gunsmith 2-to-3 requirement as 3 Rusted Gears, 5 Advanced Mechanical Components, and 4 Sentinel Firing Cores; a third-party ARC Raiders Hub Workshop page also lists three gears for the upgrade. These are third-party references, not developer-confirmed current-patch requirements, so check your in-game upgrade screen before using the item.
The same item page lists recycling as yielding 4 Metal Parts and salvaging as yielding 2 Mechanical Components plus 12 Metal Parts. Because the gear is listed as an upgrade material, check whether you still need it for Gunsmith before recycling or salvaging it.
