There are 20 animal collectibles and 13 chests in LEGO Bricktales’ Desert. You can find many while progressing through the story, but a full sweep requires returning after unlocking abilities such as Dimension, Electricity, Water, Whip, Hover, and Smash. Use the first-pass route below, then return for the ability-gated cleanup.
What to expect on your Desert collectible run
The animal set contains four each of five species: birds, rabbits, hermit crabs, ladybugs, and chameleons. A 2022 Sirus Gaming guide says 13 are available on the first run and seven require a revisit, while its prose locations account for 13 animals across 12 entries: the Queen’s Chamber entry includes both a rabbit and a hermit crab. The guide’s other first-run location entries are listed below; it does not identify a separate thirteenth location beyond those entries. The chest guide lists 13 chests. Their rewards are Popsicles, the game’s currency—not real-world consumables. The locations and ability requirements below follow Dave Acuña’s guides, published October 12, 2022; route descriptions are guidance rather than a claim of hands-on verification. Animals available during initial story progression
- Bird — tower near the blue-mohawk minifigure. Look above the tower.
- Bird — white surfer shirt minifigure. Find it near this character.
- Chameleon — desert jars. Break the jars to reveal it.
- Hermit crab — behind the pyramid.
- Chameleon — town garden path. Reach the town area by taking the garden path in the desert.
- Rabbit — tomb. Search inside the tomb.
- Ladybug — tomb upper floor. It is near the Perfect Pyramid.
- Chameleon — tomb upper floor. Look near the Pompous Cat Tree.
- Bird — tomb upper floor. It is near the Shadowbox.
- Rabbit — second pyramid chamber. Build stairs using parts from the Shadowbox build and use all the orange shelves to reach it.
- Hermit crab — second pyramid chamber. Use the Whip to descend the ledge, then follow the path.
- Rabbit and hermit crab — Queen’s Chamber. Find both in the chamber.
Animals to collect after unlocking abilities
These routes are ability-gated. If you reach a blocked path during the story, mark the area and return after acquiring the listed skills rather than searching for another route immediately.

- Bird — Electricity and Dimension. Use the teleport route across the town wall; it leads to the bird.
- Chameleon — Electricity and Dimension. In the eastern map corner, use Dimension to reveal a wheel, then open the underground gate. Teleport underground beside the Queen’s cat statue to find the chameleon.
- Hermit crab — Electricity, Hover, and Dimension. Take the teleport pad in the north town tower, reveal the Hover rail with Dimension, and ride the rail down.
- Rabbit — Water, Electricity, and Hover. Near the blue-mohawk character, clear the dirt to reveal a rail. Descend using Hover, open the underground gate, then teleport from the nearby tower.
- Two ladybugs — Water. Clear the dirt blocking each of their routes.
- Ladybug — Electricity, Dimension, and Smash. In the Queen’s Chamber, cross the teleport route, then break a pot to reach it.
All 13 Desert chests
The numbered route follows the chest guide’s list. Where an ability is required, the relevant skill is stated so you can plan a cleanup visit.
- 10 Popsicles — near the starting area.
- 50 Popsicles — second area, Gullible Gardener. Collect 20 ladybugs to receive this chest.
- 50 Popsicles — second area, skill-temple maze. Solve the maze to reach it.
- 50 Popsicles — tomb. Lower the sand, then pull the lever near the stairs to lower the chest from its ledge.
- 10 Popsicles — tomb. After lowering the sand, take the corridor obscured by the camera angle.
- 10 Popsicles — first pyramid chamber. Before the stairs down, use Dimension to reveal the chest.
- 10 Popsicles — second pyramid chamber. Build the Dangerous Pit Bridge to reach the chest on the right.
- 10 Popsicles — first desert area. Look on a ledge near the cement mixer.
- 10 Popsicles — Dimension and Electricity. Follow teleport pads via the town’s north tower, reveal a wheel, open the gate, and climb the tower.
- 10 Popsicles — Electricity. Take the narrow northern path near the town gate and teleport into the cave.
- 10 Popsicles — Electricity and Whip. Reveal a wheel in the eastern map corner and open the underground gate. Teleport below the Queen’s cat statue, then use the Whip to reach the chest.
- 10 Popsicles — Water, Electricity, and Whip. Clean the teleport pad in the second pyramid chamber and use another pad. Descend a ladder, turn the wheel to open the gate, then return for the chest.
- 10 Popsicles — Hover and Smash. In the Queen’s Chamber near Boo’s Shop, follow the Hover rail toward the stairs and break the jars.
Plan the cleanup pass by ability
Once you have the required skills, revisit the Desert and work through these regions rather than retracing every story path at random:

LEGO describes Bricktales as a puzzle-adventure across diorama worlds, including a desert, and links to Steam, Epic Games, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
