How the groups fit together
Yellow: cellphone modes
AIRPLANE, DO NOT DISTURB, RING, and VIBRATE are cellphone modes or call-alert settings.
Green: evade
DODGE, ESCAPE, LOSE, and SHAKE can each mean to evade or get away from someone or something.

Blue: what “W” might stand for
TUNGSTEN has the chemical symbol W; watt is a unit of power; west is a compass direction; and W can abbreviate win in some contexts.
Purple: ___string
Add “string” after each word to form drawstring, hamstring, heartstring, and shoestring.

A quick way to approach a Connections grid
The puzzle presents sixteen words and asks you to find four groups of four linked by a common trait. Some links are straightforward, while others depend on a less obvious meaning or phrase.
- Look for clear clusters. Note words that share a familiar setting, function, or meaning.
- Test a possible link against all four words. A category should account for four words, not merely explain a tempting pair.
- Check for alternate meanings and phrases. A word may fit because of a secondary definition, abbreviation, or the word it combines with.
- Use a hint before the answer key. The category labels above can help narrow the possibilities without revealing every word group at once.
