A quick way to approach a Connections grid
The puzzle presents sixteen words and asks you to find four groups of four linked by a common trait. Some links are straightforward, while others depend on a less obvious meaning or phrase.
- Look for clear clusters. Note words that share a familiar setting, function, or meaning.
- Test a possible link against all four words. A category should account for four words, not merely explain a tempting pair.
- Check for alternate meanings and phrases. A word may fit because of a secondary definition, abbreviation, or the word it combines with.
- Use a hint before the answer key. The category labels above can help narrow the possibilities without revealing every word group at once.
The answer key and puzzle overview are reported by Tom’s Guide; it is a third-party solver page, not an official NYT explanation.
