- Yellow: Not a problem.
- Green: Al fresco fun.
- Blue: Followed by a word that rhymes with “fool.”

Why the blue group can be easy to miss
The blue category is completed by adding “school” after each word: elementary school, grade school, grammar school, and primary school. ELEMENTARY can also suggest something easy, which makes it tempting to place with CHILD’S PLAY, EASY, NO SWEAT, and PIECE OF CAKE. One TechRadar writer described making that mistaken connection before spotting the phrase pattern; it is an example of a possible misdirection, not a measure of how players generally solve the puzzle.

How Connections works
Connections asks players to divide sixteen words into four groups of four based on a shared theme. Categories can overlap in plausible ways: the New York Times Help Center says, “Each puzzle has exactly one solution and is meant to be tricky by having words that could fit into multiple categories.” It says editors curate words and categories using the Oxford Dictionary. The game releases at midnight in each player’s timezone and is free to play across platforms. The Help Center says the archive, which reaches back to June 12, 2023, is available to All Access and Games subscribers; check the current access terms on the official page.
