If Minecraft: Bedrock Edition won’t sign in, first confirm you’re using the Microsoft account that owns the game. Then refresh the game’s sign-in session, update Minecraft, and check whether your platform’s online services are working. If you can’t sign in to the Microsoft account anywhere, use Microsoft’s account-help and recovery tools rather than repeatedly changing Minecraft settings.
Start with the Microsoft account that owns Minecraft
A mismatch between the account you expect to use and the account that owns the game can prevent sign-in. Check the purchase confirmation email or the order history for your Microsoft account to identify the purchasing account. You can also check the gamertag and email shown on the Xbox account page. Minecraft recommends signing in to the Xbox app with the owning account, then launching Minecraft and trying again; this is a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix. Refresh the Minecraft sign-in session
If the account is correct, sign out of the game’s Microsoft account and sign in again. The steps depend on your device:
- Xbox: Close Minecraft. Open the console guide, go to Profile & System, select the active account, and choose Sign out. Sign back in to that console profile, then reopen Minecraft. This signs the profile out of the console; the profile remains saved for next time.
- PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and mobile: In Minecraft, open Settings > Account and choose Sign out of your Microsoft Account. Then choose Sign in for free! and follow the on-screen code instructions using the Remote Connect page in a browser.
- Minecraft Launcher: Open the gamertag dropdown, log out, and sign back in using Microsoft Login.

If you see the Drowned error, update and check service status
Minecraft identifies the Drowned error as a Microsoft account sign-in issue. Its recommended troubleshooting includes refreshing the sign-in session, updating Minecraft, and checking whether the platform’s services are experiencing problems. The support guidance lists Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, Apple, and Google Play platform status resources. If the relevant service is down, wait for it to return before trying again; changing account details during an outage may not help.

When the Microsoft account itself won’t open
Try Microsoft’s Sign-in Helper if you cannot sign in to the Microsoft account outside Minecraft. For a locked account or suspected compromise, use Microsoft’s official account recovery process. Never share your password or a verification code with someone offering to fix the problem.
If sign-in works but multiplayer does not
Successful Microsoft sign-in does not guarantee access to multiplayer. If you can enter Minecraft but cannot join a world, check the game version, account or world permissions, any required console online subscription, and network or platform service status. These are separate multiplayer checks, not sign-in fixes. Minecraft’s Nintendo Switch sign-in guidance also explains that crossplay on Switch requires signing in with a Microsoft account.

PlayStation account-linking note
Minecraft’s PlayStation guidance says one Microsoft account can be linked with a PSN account. Linking enables cross-platform Realms play and access on other platforms to non-exclusive Marketplace content purchased on the Microsoft account. New PlayStation purchases use Minecraft Tokens in the PlayStation store. If you encounter a message that an account is already linked, use the official account-linking support flow; the reviewed guidance does not establish a universal cause or fix for that message.
