1. Complete Solara’s cabin tutorial
The independent Starsand Island Wiki beginner guide, last checked August 19, 2026, says Solara meets you at the cabin, introduces gathering and crafting, and gives you an Axe blueprint. It recommends making basic tools and a Storage Box at the outdoor Worktable.
2. Begin the Crafter apprenticeship with Zerine
Find Zerine at the General Store and follow her Crafter quest line. The guides recommend starting with crafting because it opens access to tools, crafting machines, and early transport. The beginner guide says choosing Crafter does not lock you out of other professions; you can start Farmer, Explorer, Angler, and Rancher later or alongside it.
3. Make starter tools at the Worktable
Use the Worktable to craft basic tools. The independent Pickaxe entry specifies Worktable I and the Apprentice Crafting tier for the entry-level Pickaxe. The beginner guide also points players to the outdoor Worktable, but neither page provides a complete, confirmed recipe list for every starter tool.

For an upgraded tool, you need both its blueprint and the required rank in the associated profession. After meeting both requirements, craft the upgrade at the Worktable, according to Dexerto’s tool-upgrade guide.
