To install anti-lag in Forza Horizon 5, open Tuning & Upgrades at a Horizon Festival Outpost or Player House and choose the turbo upgrade with anti-lag. Your car must have a turbocharger fitted—or support a turbocharger upgrade—for the option to appear.
How to install anti-lag
- Choose a car. Select the vehicle you want to upgrade.
- Fit a turbocharger if needed. If the car does not already have one, check whether its upgrade options include a turbocharger and install it.
- Open the upgrade menu. Go to a Horizon Festival Outpost or Player House and select Tuning & Upgrades.
- Select the anti-lag turbo. In the custom upgrade options, open the engine turbo choices and select the option labelled With Anti-Lag, or the equivalent wording shown in your game. Confirm the upgrade.
Menu labels can vary, but a secondary menu guide gives the route as Garage → Upgrades & Tuning → Custom Upgrade → Engine → turbo option labelled “With Anti-Lag.” Forza’s official instruction is to use Tuning & Upgrades at a Festival Outpost or Player House; follow the current in-game labels if they differ. Why the anti-lag option may be missing
Anti-lag is tied to the turbo upgrade, not a standalone menu available on every car. Forza says the feature is available to vehicles with a turbocharged engine and advises players who cannot see it to check that a turbocharger is fitted. If the car does not accept a turbocharger upgrade, the anti-lag option will not be available for that car. Inspect the selected vehicle’s engine options rather than assuming every car has the same upgrades. Forza’s feature announcement and this menu guide support those checks.
What anti-lag changes in the game
Forza describes anti-lag as delivering more power alongside flame effects and fire-cracker audio. Traxion also reports improved launch and acceleration on cars that can use the upgrade, but does not publish a universal measured gain. Treat the performance effect as a possible benefit of a particular build, not a guarantee that every car will be faster by a known amount. Forza’s description; Traxion’s coverage.

Using or removing anti-lag after installation
The documented action is to install the anti-lag turbo. The reviewed official guidance does not establish a separate button or setting to switch the effect on and off after fitting it. If you want to remove the anti-lag setup, community advice suggests replacing it with a standard turbo, but that is player guidance rather than an official control instruction.

Check that the anti-lag turbo is selected and that the game is up to date. Forza release notes have documented anti-lag exhaust-animation problems on particular car and body-kit combinations, including fixes for specific vehicles. That history supports checking for a vehicle-specific visual issue, but it is not a complete list of current bugs. Forza Horizon 5 release notes.
