To switch to first-person aiming in Helldivers 2, aim down sights and press Switch Aim Mode. The reported default is Middle Mouse Button on PC or right-stick press on PS5. Press it again to return to third-person aiming.

Press the same input again while aiming to switch back to third-person view.
These are reported default bindings, not guaranteed settings for every update or customized control layout. If the input does not work, check the current in-game controls for Switch Aim Mode and use the binding shown there. Game8’s control guide lists the defaults.

Make first-person aiming persist
Open the game’s options and look for Remember Aim Mode. The available choices described by the guide are:
- Off: aiming starts in third-person view.
- Global: all weapons use the last aim mode selected.
- Per Weapon: each weapon remembers its own last selected aim mode.
Choose Global or Per Weapon if you want the game to retain your first-person preference. Arrowhead Game Studios’ August 6, 2024 patch notes state that a bug preventing global and per-weapon aim modes from being remembered after closing and reopening the game was fixed: Patch 01.001.002.

Menu wording and placement can vary with platform or game updates, so look for the Remember Aim Mode setting in Options if the path differs on your version.

First-person view is an aiming mode, not a persistent camera setting for the whole game. Sighted aiming can make it easier to line up a precise shot, while the weapon view can narrow what you see around you. Choose based on the situation rather than assuming one view is always more accurate or safer.
