Spoiler warning: This page covers the solution to New York Times Strands #240, published Tuesday, October 29, 2024. Read only as far as you want: the theme comes first, then a spangram hint, followed by the complete answer list.
What is the theme for Strands #240?
The theme is “You and me,” centered on words for close relationships and people who share a bond.
Where is the spangram?
The spangram runs vertically from the top edge to the bottom edge. Its first letter touches the top at column four, and its last letter touches the bottom at column two. The Times’ rule, as reproduced by Parade, says a spangram describes the theme and touches two opposite sides of the board; it may be two words.
What are the NYT Strands #240 answers?
The spangram is TOGETHERNESS. The theme words are:
- FRIEND
- PARTNER
- BESTIE
- COMPANION
- SIDEKICK
TechRadar’s October 29, 2024 report lists the same answers and gives the spangram’s edge positions.

Need an in-game hint?
In Strands, finding three valid words that are not theme answers earns an in-game hint revealing letters of a theme word, according to the rules reproduced by Parade. For this board, TechRadar suggests trying NAME, MESS, SITE, BIKE, DINE, or FINE as non-theme words to trigger hints. A third-party guide, Strands.Game, describes the general board as a 6-by-8 grid where letters can be connected in any direction, including diagonally, and paths can change direction mid-word; it is not affiliated with the New York Times.
