To preorder a PS5, use a retailer listing that explicitly says the specific console or bundle is available for preorder. Sony’s US buying page currently directs shoppers to retailers for the PS5, PS5 Digital Edition and PS5 Pro; it does not establish that the standard PS5 is currently open for preorder. Check the live listing for availability, delivery estimate, seller and total price before paying.
Where to look for a PS5 preorder
- Start with Sony’s PS5 buying page. Choose the model shown there and follow its retailer link. Sony’s US page includes PlayStation Direct and other retailer options. A purchase link means the console is offered through retailers; it does not by itself mean preorder is open.
- Use PlayStation Direct if the item is marked eligible for preorder. Sony says preorder availability is product-specific. Select the eligible product, add it to your cart and complete checkout. Keep the confirmation email and order reference.
- Check the retailer serving your market. PlayStation Direct’s US terms require US billing and shipping addresses and exclude PO boxes, US territories and addresses outside the US. Other markets may have different stores and terms.
Before submitting an order, verify the exact model or bundle, the seller, condition, expected delivery date and checkout total on the live listing. Stock, prices and preorder windows can change; a product page is not proof that an item is available.
Which PS5 model should you preorder?
Sony’s US buying page lists three console choices. Compare the format you want and the storage specification shown for each listing:
| Model listed by Sony | What the buying page says | What to check in the listing |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 console – 1TB | Supports Blu-ray discs and digital downloads. | Confirm the precise model or bundle and that a disc drive is included. |
| PS5 Digital Edition – 825GB | No disc drive; plays a digital game collection. | Confirm the specific edition and bundle. Do not assume a disc drive is included. |
| PS5 Pro | Listed as a console option on Sony’s US buying page. | Check the retailer’s product details for the exact configuration and bundle. |
The model names and storage figures above are Sony’s published US buying-page specifications accessed October 8, 2026; confirm the current listing before ordering. Sony also notes that the vertical stand is sold separately.

How to complete and manage a preorder
Place the order
- Open the retailer listing for the exact product and confirm it is currently marked for preorder.
- Review the delivery estimate, seller, condition, bundle contents and final checkout price.
- Add the item to your cart and complete checkout using the retailer’s instructions.
- Save the confirmation email and order reference so you can manage or check the order later.
Keep payment details current
PlayStation Direct says preorder payment details can be modified up to seven days before the listed release date. Make sure the payment method remains valid through the expected shipment. Its support page says preorders generally ship the day before launch; that is a typical timing statement, not a guarantee of shipment or delivery on a particular date. See PlayStation Support’s Direct ordering guidance for order management and cancellation information.
Understand what an order confirmation means
PlayStation Direct says orders are subject to availability, which can change without notice, and that an order confirmation does not itself signify acceptance. Follow the retailer’s updates and terms rather than treating a confirmation email as a guarantee that the console will ship.

Can you register for an invitation to buy?
Sony has a registration page for limited, invitation-based PS5 purchase opportunities in the US, UK, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. Registration is not a reservation and does not guarantee selection. If invited, you can use the invitation only during its stated window and while stock lasts. Check Sony’s PS5 registration page for the regions and terms currently shown.
