The command searches for the nearest matching structure in your current dimension and returns coordinates you can use to travel or teleport.
Which command should you use?
| Edition | Command |
|---|---|
| Java Edition | /locate structure minecraft:mansion |
| Bedrock Edition | /locate structure mansion |
Minecraft’s official command guide describes the modern syntax as /locate <category> <thing>. The Java mansion-specific example above is documented by the Minecraft Wiki; if your version rejects it, use autocomplete after typing /locate structure to select an accepted name. Minecraft command guide · Minecraft Wiki: Locate command
How to enter the command
- Open the in-game chat.
- Type the command for your edition, including the leading slash, and submit it.
- Read the coordinates in the result. The command searches the current dimension; in Bedrock, it reports an error if no matching structure is found there.
Bedrock’s command also has an optional useNewChunksOnly argument. It defaults to false; setting it to true restricts the search to newly generated chunks. Microsoft Learn: locate command
Permissions and Bedrock achievements
In Bedrock, /locate requires cheats and the Game Directors permission level. In Java single-player, enable commands when creating the world or later in World Options; on a multiplayer server, you need sufficient command permissions. Microsoft Learn: locate command
