In Disney Dreamlight Valley, the Inside Out-themed critters are earned through the limited-time Memory Mania event and its companion duties. The latest official run was September 16–29, 2026, and has ended as of October 8, 2026. Here are the item locations and requirements from that run, plus what is and is not confirmed about earning the rewards now.
How the Memory Mania companion unlocks work
Memory Mania uses four sets of scattered memory items. Collect the required number for a set, complete its memory, then fulfill the associated Dreamlight duty to earn its named reward. The item routes and duty names below are from the official 2026 event announcement.

The announcement says items appear once per hour, with up to two items for each route during a spawn interval. Allow time for multiple appearances to reach the collection total.

Collect ten Riley’s Phones around Remy’s Restaurant in the Village, complete the phone memory, and finish “Feeling Accomplished.”
Nostalgia Capybara
The 2026 announcement names “Get Nostalgic” as the duty for Nostalgia Capybara. It does not identify a particular memory-item route for that duty, so the four collection routes above should not be assumed to unlock this critter.

Reward from the “Deep Dark Secret” quest
The announcement lists a new “Deep Dark Secret” reward for completing the quest series with Joy, but its captured text does not name the companion. It is not possible to identify that reward as a specific critter from that announcement alone.

To start the 2026 Memory Mania quest, Joy from Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out must already be unlocked. The event quest asks you to help Joy find items stolen from Villagers’ houses and catch the culprit. Joy and Sadness arrived with the Emotional Rescue update; a guide to unlocking the Inside Out Realm and progressing its quests is available from PC Gamer, but in-game requirements can change between versions.

The official event announcement says the Joy quest track can still be completed after Memory Mania ends if you accepted its first quest before the event ended. That continuation rule applies to the quest track; it does not confirm that the memory sets or their companion duties remain available afterward.
Can you unlock them after the event?
The latest official event dates found are September 16–29, 2026, so that run is over. The official announcement does not settle whether players who missed the window can now collect the memories or complete the companion duties. It also does not establish that those rewards are permanently unavailable. Check the in-game event duties and current official announcements for any return or availability changes.

Not every Memory Mania reward is a companion: the announcement also lists the Lance Slashblade Statue for “Memorabilia,” a Hockey Uniform for “Embrace the Blues,” and a Hockey Stick for “Spark Joy.”
