To get past Lemmy’s Castle in Super Mario World, take the P Switch route across the water to reach the Midway Gate, then time your jumps across the rising and sinking blocks over lava. At the end, identify Lemmy among two decoys and stomp the real one three times.
How to reach the checkpoint
Lemmy’s Castle is the third castle in Vanilla Dome, after Vanilla Dome 4. The opening section is a hazard-avoidance run: Magikoopas fire magic that can turn floor blocks into other objects, Lava Bubbles jump from gaps, and holes can open in the floor. Keep moving, watch the floor, and avoid standing under blocks that a projectile may hit. A prize block on the right contains an optional Cape Feather.

Take the P Switch route
- Cross the water using the floating platforms.
- Hit the block above the water to get the P Switch, then carry it to solid ground on the right.
- Collect the three coins by the door if you want them, set down and activate the P Switch, then go through the door.
This route takes you to the Midway Gate and a 1-Up block. If you miss the switch route, you can continue farther right through another door, but that path passes Lava Bubbles and lava pits and skips the checkpoint.
How to cross the moving blocks
After the Midway Gate, use the large blocks that rise out of the lava as stepping stones. Move across them while they are high, and jump to the right before they sink. Continue when the next blocks rise, watching for Lava Bubbles and Dry Bones. If you miss a crossing, look for a small upper room within this moving-block section as a fallback.

How to get through the final tunnels
An optional room contains a Super Mushroom. Later, as the blocks descend, take the low tunnel to reach a stationary tunnel above it. Wait for the blocks to rise, then use the tunnel on the right. Jump over the final lava pit and go through the door to reach Lemmy. A Green Switch Palace block can provide a Cape Feather if you have completed that palace.
How to beat Lemmy
A Lava Bubble bounces around the arena while Lemmy emerges from one of three floor pipes alongside two decoys. Watch the figures as they appear, then jump on the real Lemmy. You must stomp him three times to win. Stomping a decoy does not count, but it does not hurt you either; avoid touching any figure from the side, and keep clear of the Lava Bubble.

What happens after the castle
Defeating Lemmy opens the southward map route and gives you the option to save. The castle’s usual progression leads toward Cheese Bridge Area. Vanilla Fortress can also connect to the Twin Bridges area, so the precise map route can depend on how you reach the fortress.
