How do you unlock access?
Progress through the story until you can infiltrate Eclipse Base. The route guide identifies this as the prerequisite, but does not specify the base entrance, mission sequence, or exact unlock trigger. It therefore does not support a step-by-step walkthrough of the infiltration.
How do you navigate the route?
The swamp terrain slows your movement if you do not have an in-game hoverboard. The guide describes the hoverboard as a way to move more conveniently through the swamp, not as a requirement to enter Route 18.

How does Route 18 fit into Crescent Island?
Route 17 is a mostly water route that begins at the far end of Decca Beach and connects with Crescent Town; its page lists HM3 Surf as a navigation requirement. This can help orient players already following that part of the story, but it does not establish a complete path from every starting point to Route 18. Anthian City is not a direct connection to Route 18. Its guide describes reaching it by airship from Cragonos Peak, making it a separate story location rather than a useful immediate landmark for this route. Anthian City guide
