To message someone on Roblox, open Chat on a phone or tablet, or the chat panel at the lower-right of the website on a computer. To talk during a game, use the in-experience chat—if the developer has enabled it. Which features you can use also depends on age checks, privacy settings, parental consent, and regional availability.
Message a friend on a phone or tablet
- From the Roblox home screen, tap Chat at the bottom. Some accounts may still show Party while the label change rolls out.
- Open an existing conversation, or tap the + button to choose friends and start a chat.
- Type your message in the conversation and send it.

Message someone on a computer
- Open the gray chat panel at the lower-right of the Roblox website.
- Select a person or group. Use the search box to find someone if needed.
- Enter your message in the Send a Message box and press Enter.
Chat while playing an experience
To talk to people in the same experience, press / on your keyboard or select the chat icon at the top left, type your message, and press Enter or Return. The experience’s developer must have enabled chat. This is separate from friend chat: the conversation is for people in that experience and ends when you leave it, according to Roblox Support.
Start a group chat
In the Chat tab, tap +, select up to five friends, then choose Create. Depending on age or location, an invitation may need to be accepted. Group members can leave, report a member, or remove someone, as described in Roblox’s chat and friends guide.

Why you may not be able to message someone
Roblox’s current help guidance says users must complete an age check to access communication features. It also says users ages 5–9 need parental consent to enable Experience chat, and users under 16 need parental consent to enable Direct chat. Regional restrictions may apply. Check your own account and communication settings, since rules and availability can vary by region and rollout. See Roblox’s age-check guidance.
Roblox’s friend-chat guidance describes different access by age: users under 9 cannot send direct messages or chat with friends outside games; users ages 9–12 can text and group chat with trusted friends with filters; and users 13 and older can text and group chat with trusted friends without filters and may have voice chat. The guide says age-verified users over 9 can chat with friends across phones, tablets, computers, and VR, though the interface can differ. These are Roblox’s stated rules, not a guarantee that every feature is available to every account. Check the friend-chat guide and your settings.

Filtered messages and privacy controls
Filtered chat is Roblox’s default for eligible communication. It is designed to block inappropriate content and personal information; Roblox says profanity may be rephrased into a safe and civil message. Account owners can limit or disable who can chat with them, and parents can manage a child’s communication controls. See Roblox’s chat safety guidance.
Trusted friends
A trusted friend is a mutual connection that both users agree to. Some features may depend on age and region, and users under 13 need parent approval for each trusted friend. Roblox says availability is rolling out by country; its friend-chat guide has further details.

Stop someone from contacting you
Blocking someone removes the mutual friend or follower relationship and prevents direct contact, friend requests, experience invites, and party invites. You can block a user from their profile on browser or mobile, or through in-experience menus. See Roblox’s blocking instructions.
